Re: Atherston Matters
That's great. Battered by our own local paper.
I hope it isn't on the hoardings in that form as not everyone buys the paper to read the correct report so will assume that is the way it was.

Re: Atherston Matters
They appear to have amended it now. No mention of 'Barrow AFC' in the headline on the web site.Wintergreen wrote:Evening Mail headline 2/6/15 "Accused Barrow AFC fans discover final verdict in pitch disorder case"

They were asked to change it and have done so.

Re: Atherston Matters
I think a few people need to be careful about what they are saying on a public forum.
My advice would be to say nothing at all on a public forum about the events until after all trials have been concluded and sentences given.

Re: Atherston Matters
A trust representative contacted the mail and asked them to amend the misleading headline.
"As long as they don't start causing any bother they are welcome to continue reinforcing my belief the Midlands is only good for nuking."

Re: Atherston Matters
Why doesn't a trust or club rep contact the evening mail and announce complete dis-association with the paper? Have they ever truly supported, backed or even helped. BARROW FC? Yes I know it's AFC. Do we really need or rely on the EM for advertising when we have a more than overly qualified marketing manager on board ( in comparison to the EM Office's) I know there is the arguement for fans who can't attend games for many reasons but that is mainly because of pricing lets be honest? Would a rise in the teams success and a drop in admission prices not counteract the need for the local slag, sorry rag, sorry Mail to even report on our games. One last thing when can i get this seasons shirt with scholes on the back?

Strange idea, Finbar17 - have nothing to do with the club's main source of publicity?
Really?

Re: Atherston Matters
The evening mail gives the club a lot of fantastic publicity - ok it has the occasional misleading headline but they do a lot to market the club far more, sadly, than the club itself

I was quoting the mail in the linked article.

I make lots of mistakes daily. However my mistakes aren't at someone else's expense (Barrow Afc fans) to make profit. And in my opinion purposely . SCHOLES SIGNS UP FOR BARROWHadrian wrote:Strange idea, Finbar17 - have nothing to do with the club's main source of publicity?

Re: Atherston Matters
I've heard this said before...but I haven't seen any evidence. Can you maybe offer an example of what they do that isn't also done by this site, the official site and/or general social media? It's a worthless rag that must be giggling itself silly that they still get considered by some as a serious journalistic publication.Bingo wrote:The evening mail gives the club a lot of fantastic publicity - ok it has the occasional misleading headline but they do a lot to market the club far more, sadly, than the club itself

The obvious example is to do with reach - lots don't use this site, the official site or general social media. The Mail gets into lots of Furness homes.

Re: Atherston Matters
Like the NWEM or not, the club are on the back page on a very regular basis, which then keeps it in a lot of people's minds. It's not ideal (far from it, but then again, what paper is?) This forum isn't read by everyone, the official site isn't used by everyone, and those that do use it complain about it, so the way things stand it's publicity and one that reaches far more than the other two outlets I mention.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
