Dixon is 21 and still learning his trade.Yes he is making mistakes, but he is also making some great saves. He has the makings of a great keeper and has already been noticed by being selected for England C.He is an asset to Barrow AFC and further coaching can only help him.

Agree with Graythwaite Nick re Joel Dixon.

I think he has the makings of a decent league standard keeper. His instincts for his age are very good despite making the usual number of mistakes.
Second half at LIncoln I thought he was pretty strong whilst under constant bombardment and a rather wicked wind. Also the team don't seem to feel like they should protect him in any way which shows they have some confidence in him.

Think we should also accept that he hasn't had the most solid back four in front of him at times this season and I believe that's where the focus needs to lie in the first instance. I think Dixon fits the profile of a player who could be with BAFC for some time if PCs journey continues roughly to plan.
The National league can be a rather tough place to build your reputation skills for a young guy on a development curve. However this is one position where we should try and be patient.

Theres been a good amount of goals conceded this year where the ball has found its way past Dixon very easily.

Cheltenham away. 2-1 . Equalizer bounces through him

Aldershots first at home that he flapped at. The positioning of a mad man for the second. 3-1 loss

Kidderminster at home. 1-1 draw. well positioned but again the ball goes ever so slightly to his left and even with a hand to it its enough to beat him

Altrincham away (through the legs) 1-0 loss. megged.

Chester at home (through the legs again) for the first, the fumble for the second. 3-2 win

Weak hand on Bromleys first. Bromleys 4th doesnt get down quick enough. 5-0 loss

Beaten at near post vs Fylde . Takes a deflection on its way though, 1-0 loss

Wrexham away first goal. Just watch it and see for yourself . Second one goes right through him when the angle is in his favour. 3rd goal see the second goal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk50kt_iiaY 4-1 loss

Guiseley away . Ball bounces at him, doesnt deal with it , falls to the attacker to make it 2-0 . 3-1 loss

Grimsby home . 3rd goal gets a weak hand to it which sees it go into the bottome corner. result 3-1 loss

Dover . Second goal goes right underneath him. The 3rd goals a bit strange. Its a well hit shot but is very central. I think he actually puts his hand up as if to say " ah well thats over the bar" 3-1 loss

Woking at home. Wokings first comes at him, flaps at it and hits him on the back of the arm before going in.

Thats 18 goals which I reckon could have been avoided.

Dixon's a decent keeper, but he's no Hugo Knox.

Good point.

I guess that young managers get less time to develop (even at our level) than goalkeepers

One of the Lincoln players looks like a recovering heroin addict version of Niall Cowperthwaite

Some would say he's not even Bobby Knox...

That's quite a list, and it does make you think. If even half of those mistakes could be explained away by mitigating circumstances and bad luck, it still adds up to a goalkeeping problem.

Always easy to blame goalie, perhaps if the ten in front of him had done better by tackling now and again the goals wouldn't have gone in.

A couple if the Bromley goals were mentioned. The lad had shots coming at him for 90 minutes pulling off some great saves whilst his teammates just stood and watched.

The defence rely on the keeper as much as the keeper relies on the defence.

Theres no excuse for the defence making mistake after mistake.
If the keeper then makes mistakes its his fault too.

We are 3rd worst for conceding in this league.

Making a couple of good saves is great but its kind of let down when you let in 2/3 in the same game which should easily be saves.

I think he's great potential but is a fair way off the finished article. When Cox talks about 'seeing where we are in January' I think if we are steady mid table but not likely to push on we'll stick with him.

If he didn't come in as a big signing, and instead came direct from Workington (a la Taylor) or Carlisle reserves, people would be labelling him another useless Edmo signing. He's making more mistakes than any keeper I can recall playing for Barrow - the stops that he's making that most other keepers would make are massively outweighed by the mistakes he's making that no other keepers would make. Just an opinion, of course, but he doesn't inspire confidence.
