Surely the main shop for merchandise should be in the town, wives, girlfriends etc.,they all shop in town and would at least look to buy a relative a present/gift i doubt any of these would go to holker street to buy anything!
Also if you had offers of tickets for home matches people would be able to see this, everything we do at present is just" firefighting",we have to have more vision it`s not rocket science just common sense,as others have said we are missing loads of opportunities to promote /sell the club.
If we can spend thousands on 1 function in London then WHY CAN`T we get a lease on a shop in town?

The only problem being is that theres no one at the club to suggest/implement this.

The club seems happy to wait for business to hopefullu make its way to them ,rather than actively go out and persue it.

We did have shop once just off town centre.Too be honest don't think we got big enough fan base to be open full time. not sure whether closed cos lease ran out or it didn't pay or in a club financial crises had to close cos couldn't afford rent.

My thoughts too. Peesee has obviously had a good experience with the rugby so will probably be sticking with them.

We should share a bigger shop and staff in town with the rugby..even maybe smaller sports like thorns etc. That way there would be year round business in better surroundings..run by people who understand both business and the town. Commercial meetings and ticket offers could be run from there. Also..afaik the well dressed older gents paul describes are retirees with extensive knowledge of the town. How hard can it be? I despair.

Agree about shared shop I've often thought this or a shop combined with a little cafe - the bluebirds cafe - a real presence in the town

I applied for this role and chased up my application on two separate occasions. I was unsuccessful and the letter I received would not have received good marks in a primary school homework assignment. I have 12 years plus experience in global sales and marketing and have worked in the leisure industry. My current role takes me into local businesses every day to discuss potential work. I have a list of every business in Furness and it's key personnel. I had researched the ground, the shop, and made cold calls to the club as research for the role and my plan for improvement was to form part of my interview if successful. I would apply again if the post was advertised once more.

Odd that applicants like the ones mentioned aren't even getting a sniff at an interview.

Sounds like there has been some very good candidates, so hopefully we will see improvements taking us forward commercially in the very near future!

It will all depend upon where the job spec was placed. Pretty sure it wouldn't be just on this forum and the Evening Mail
