Re: Ground Maintenance Area
We can stick a post up letting people know if you want Mark. It's no where near as often these days but there's always bits to do just to keep things ticking over, such as them two hand rails on the pop side steps & the plinth & fitting room in the shop Emma has asked for.Mark Mc wrote:Would be nice if the guys post when they are meeting at the ground and what times just so those willing to lend a hand know if it’s a rest weekend or a working weekend. There is much to do and those weeks until the season starts will soon fly by.
Thanks for the help as well on Sunday Mark.
Does anyone know of any allotment holders that might want them 1 metre square water containers that were dotted around the ground?
We need to get shot of them so they're going free to anyone who can find a use for them.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Quite a few of them Al/GT.
I'll pop up a post when we're next down there for you to shift them.....unless you just want to pick them up when the club is open. If your doing it that way just let me know so I can tell Steve Patton you'll be in there.
We were assured they were clean but if your tomato's end up the size of footballs with legs, arms and a head there is no claim available off us

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
A little bit of a plea for help off the club.
Under the main stand (the GMA) there is a shed load of rubble left at the far end from when the stand was built and just dumped there. The shotblasters and paint people need to get a look at all the columns at ground level for work to be done on the H bar frames over the summer, so it has to be removed as soon as possible to allow them time to do the work.
If anyone feels as though they'd like to help out on Sunday morning shifting the rubble to a skip the club would be very grateful (not to mention how grateful the four or five of us would be.....)
The club will lay on refreshments throughout the morning (tea/coffee/bacon butties)
If possible a few wheelbarrows would also come in very handy, I think we have one that is of any use!

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I'm ok for a few hours wheelbarrowing and jack hammering
Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I'll come along for light duties- in other words I'll help shift those Everton floodlights. And if you don't want them I'll take one home as an outside light for the house- even though it'll take 5 minutes to light up properly.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Thanks Jonty.
Yes Elaine, same old time - 9:00am. Right, that's you on the wheelbarrow and me helping serve the coffee
If anyone could lend Elai.....I mean us a couple of wheelbarrows it'd be a massive help.
Al/Graham, if you want them water butts is there any chance of getting them on Sunday, no problem if you can't collect them then but it just seems like a good opportunity while we're there.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Went down tonight with red van joiner to do a job in the club shop and Austin was hard at it under the stand clearing stuff out and between us all 3 hours later filled a skip with old signs wood hoses and cut up some old steel handrails and now we can get to the area that needs sorting on Sunday ... If you can spare a few hours it's important as the stand is getting shot blasted and painted soon

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
A really good turn-out today with nine of us down there clearing the various areas for inspection by the paint/shot blast company.
IRVJ, Mrssenoritta, Pete Nichols, Billy D (who only came for the free food) Elaine, Whitty 1969, Jonty & myself all flew into the main event - which was clearing the columns under the main stand of all the rubble left over from when it was built. This is to allow the shot blast/paint sprayers to examine the steelwork to see what maintenance work is required in the coming weeks.
That was completed fairly quickly with so many helping so some other jobs were taken on - some old signs that were falling apart were taken down off the reception building and will be painted in the coming weeks, also a lot of general waste was skipped.
We also came up with (hopefully) a decent idea to improve the segregation fence (which is basically a mess) it's quite a big job but with a bit of luck we might get it sorted before the season starts (any help on that would be appreciated....just PM or reply on here if you think you could help)
We've also planned to repair a lot of the broken seats in the main stand, we have spare parts/brackets etc stored in the GMA, so again with a bit of luck we might have that done by the start of the new season.
We must also thank Emma for turning up and looking after us very, very well with McDonalds breakfasts and cups of tea/coffee/water & biscuits all morning.....in between doing her nails!!
Really good effort by all today - and I'll be passing all that onto the club. Things like this might seem unimportant, but by doing these jobs with volunteers it frees up money for team improvements....which I'm sure we can all see with some of the recent signings.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
A thank you from the club for yesterdays efforts.
As part of the summer restoration and repairs at Holker Street it was time to give the vast area under the main stand a clear out. Volunteers came forward probably not knowing what they were letting themselves in for but the thought of free food and regular brews & biscuits can usually motivate! Three skips have now been filled and a number useful items found under the stand that can be re-used.
A massive thank you needs to go to all those that volunteered on the day, to Sinkfall Recycling for dealing swiftly with the skips, to Emma for co-ordinating the effort, to Tony Johnson and Steve at the club for all the work they did before the event and to Ian RVJ and Tommy * for helping to fill a whole skip last Thursday before the main event had even started.
If anyone has any ideas what might be done with approximately twenty large floodlights currently awaiting a new home please get in touch with Ian Rainford.
Great spirit was shown on the day but there is still lots to do before the area can be used for more than storage but it was great start.
Cheers to all involved.
Austin Straker.
* Austin obviously didn't want to mention himself but he was with IRVJ & Tommy clearing out and skipping rubbish last Thursday.
