I think that's unfair, tbh. Done a lot, got more to do if we are to be sustainable league club - that'd be my take on it.

All about opinions though, innit.

Apart from throwing money at the squad and the odd problem as they arise , what has been invested in? You could argue the Cross Bar is nicer when you go in. What is making money for the club that Casshon has invested in off the pitch?

Due diligence can take many forms, such as informal research and then formal opening up of the books. I would have expected the latter at least as part of any purchase agreement.

However, it can only show what is happening at that point in time. Whilst Mr Casson may have had ideas about what he wanted to do eg. Floodlights, roof on Holker st end etc. I would be surprised if he could check or validate these were all possible as part of any such process - not at least to any reasonable level of detail.

Another thought is that he is based in the States and does business there. In my experience, people over there tend to be positive and look for solutions quite quickly. This can sometimes come across as "over promising". Just a thought.
Londonblue, you're not going to fit in round here if you are going to be so reasonable and considered. Please take into account the daily hysteria levels needed by the menstrual brigade. If they can't bitch and whine at the impending doom that is upon us then they won't be able to get through the day.

I haven't even mentioned the football yet...

Ian R posted a list the other day of all the work that's been done on the ground - granted it's not sexy stuff like a new stand but it's necessary infrastructure work to keep us going. Cross Bar is nicer. We bought the Performance Centre business; there seems to be more community stuff going on. We've upgraded in terms of playing squad and management too.

The money making stuff is in the 'more to do' column.

Ill ask again Dave. What is making money for the club that has been invested in by Casson off the pitch?

Well, you could argue that without the investment in the ground we wouldn't have a safety certificate and we'd be lodging at Caravan Park.

I agree with you - there's nothing major, new, fresh and exciting going on. We've just kept the old operation ticking over.

He funded a league winning side, 3rd round FA Cup and play off chasing team so almost perfect on the pitch.

Off the pitch new boiler, new windows and refurb of the crossbar to a decent standard. The floodlights this summer?

He's funded the pitch being levelled and the work Gareth is doing.

Community side new youth teams, girl teams and other stuff.

So he has done done stuff obviously there's alot more he could do commercially and the ground still needs major work.

Off the pitch, what is making the club some much needed revenue? What is even in the planning to increase revenue? Or is it all gambled on how the team performs on the pitch?

On saturday Tranmere had a tent in the car park , not too much bigger than the one we had at the start of last season.
Loads of benches and tables. There was a guy selling merch in there . In the middle was a massive bar which was permanently rammed with someone doing different types of food next to it. All kitted out with flags and scarves of both home and visiting sides. 3 or 4 tv’s showing whatever game was on at the time. It was so impressive. £3.00 a pint as well. It was really impressive. I believe its run by the trust but it must make a killing!

This made me think back to the one we had. Ill advertised (if it was even advertised) , Literally 4 tables (only 2 of which had chairs around it), a small bottle bar, no food, no television, no drink promotions. It was basically a waiting room wher eyou could have an over priced bottle of budweiser , the atmosphere was as stale as 3 day old dog shite. There was about 4 people in there at half past two because no one thought to tell the people queuing in the cross bar it was open. If that had been set up in the way Tranmeres had been, then that would be providing a very respectable income for the club this season.

Yet nothing like that is ever ventured.

I think part of the problem is that if things are tried, and don't succeed, they are deemed to be a "failure" based on one or two attempts.

This may be partly due to apathy, but a lot is down to it being advertised properly (through traditional and online means) and then run appropriately with confidence. But this probably needs people with professional experience who have seen/possibly worked in the industry before who can tell whether something will work or not over a period of time. That's not knocking the current people who help or work there, just an assessment of what needs to be done to get to the next level (whatever that might be).

If we want to increase the crowds then the net has to be spread further to get people from both inside/outside of the area. But you won't get them without increased presence and this can only be achieved with the combination of a team that people want to watch and improved facilities/commercial acumen.

I was merely pointing out he had spent money and done stuff.

Don't get me started on the tent I knew it wouldn't last

The Taunton tent remains the dream. Proper beer, decent grub, quick service, atmosphere.

That threads similar to this one with the same points being discussed in 2015 that are being discussed in 2017.

Still no initiative.

There used to be a weekly report on here about the work that had been done on the ground by the great team that got together on a Sunday. I haven't seen a report more or less since Casson took over, and I seem to remember it was disbanded. If that is the case the club seems to have lost a great asset that was manned by enthusiastic volunteers.

Was the weekly report about improvements to the existing ground?

It seems like things have been done in the background that needed to be done e.g. New boiler etc. but much of this is not visible to the fans nor a substantial gear change in investment to improve and enhance.

The question is whether communication of improvements is being deliberately downplayed because the money isn't there to do it and the owners initial plans have had to be curtailed. If so, I think the fans would rather him be honest than keep everyone guessing.

As an aside, whilst the NWEM is an important media outlet in the area, official positions from the club should come from them directly via the website via press releases etc. Not everyone reads the newspaper or goes into their website.

It is and I know Papa Cass has done some good minor stuff but he has not delivered on the more major stuff in my opinion.

If I had all the family round the table Christmas Day 2014 and told them I was going to do this and going to build that then Christmas 2015 and Christmas 2016 came and went with nothing happening, what would they think about me?

The flack would be merciless and they would come to the rightful conclusion that I was a dreamer.
