Oh wait, it all turned out to be nonsense? Who could have predicted that...

The only details in the public domain about the meeting Cox had with Hartlepool say it was "brief" (BBC Radio Cumbria), that Hartlepool quickly withdrew interest (everyone), and that Cox had very little interest in the job anyway (Casson). But they're all clearly in collusion to save face.

So many holes in the story, and I suspect our "in the know" mole was just following the same tweets as I was, but presenting them as fact.

It should never have got out from Hartlepool's end (though it's commonly known that Brabin and Harrison were interviewed before Cox was even considered), as that's not a professional way to do business, undermining another club. And there shouldn't need to be an announcement either. The only reason a statement was needed at all is because the speculation got way out of hand.

Nice to see that people are trying to undermine their own club before the season's even started.

I think you'll find there were a few more sources reporting this than what you've mentioned above.

The Club undermines it's self
We have seen poor communication in relationship to sackings and removal of the assistant manager.
It's a totally unprofessional run businesses or play thing.
If Casson walks away the fans will be fans.

You mean details of the meeting? The other people reporting say that they "believe" talks were at an advanced stage and the stumbling block was the compo. Clearly not true.
They were all reporting it from the same "source". There's clearly someone at the Hartlepool end, who's got some involvement (hence the odds dropping so quickly before Hartlepool had even made contact with Casson) - but they're either not in possession of the full facts, or only telling their local press the bits that they want them to know. Back-fired a bit because they look like right tits now that everyone thinks that they got to the end of the process before realising that there might be a fee to pay. Yeah right!

Not sure if you realised, or you are choosing to ignore it.

Paul Cox went to speak to potential new employers to discuss a potential new job. That in itself creates more questions about his willingness to be involved if a bigger club wants to take him on and pay the price ( which Casson has now publicly announced)

The club (as always) communicated poorly and if anything made themselves look a bit silly again, to have to be prompted by its own fans to make a statement on the matter.

I get out quite a bit, thanks, but I'm grateful for your concern.

Unlike some on here, it seems, who seem to spend hours trawling for titbits from various sources which they perhaps misread, misunderstand or incorrectly infer from...

It probably needs to be reiterated that Hartlepool are being run like an absolute shambles so the situation that emerged could well be as a result of their own incompetence rather than just our own and they could very well have approached Cox and thought they could nab him without any prior knowledge of his release clause, this is a club that appointed Dave Jones last season, a manager that had never managed at league 2 level and had been out of the game for four years prior to being appointed at Hartlepool, they are not a well run club, their chairman stepped aside just before the end of the season amidst all the chaos.

A management job in the football league comes up twice a week (roughly), and a currently employed manager gets interviewed for around half of them. How many press releases do you see put out about it though? None.
The club's communication wasn't poor, it was unnecessary. The only people making our club look silly are the [SwearFilter] driving home an agenda. Boring as [SwearFilter].

So...if it was unnecessary, why did they actually do the statement?

It should have been unnecessary. They put one out because speculation had descended into farce. You know this though.

On a serious note,if other clubs supporters choose to view things written on this forum they wouldnt believe the amount of shit, bickering and general criticism of supposedly the club we support.I wont mention you know who but his continual responses to post after post make this site, and particular this topic farcical, its absolute unreal. We really need to take a look at the way we support our club on here, and him,im pretty sick of the constant negativity he spews about everything Barrow football,so much, im gonna take a break from it.

I guess what I struggle with is the strange reaction the club has to a few comments on a football forum.

Jokes have been made in the past about the club reacting to things that are suggested on this site - especially around social media and the website.

Whether a statement should have been made or not is probably a moot point and you can argue both ways. The question really is why after a few heated comments on the forum the club feels it needs to react. It should have its own policy on these types of things e.g. statements, use of social media for comms etc. communicate the policy and then stick to it.

There's a lot of inconsistency - that's all I'm saying.
