It is truly staggering that the amount of rain we have had overnight has caused yet another postponement. We have had almost a dry last week it really does show how poor our pitch has now become. It does seem to reflect the whole mood of the club at the moment it just is not good enough and I'm sure I reflect the opinion of many who feel disillusioned and disappointed with the state of our club at the moment.

Very positive new member colin,you will fit in well on this forum. I suggest you take a look outside at the weather now mate, its lashing down and whoever made the decision to call the match off, was absolutely correct.Was gonna say the weather must be better in dalton,but nowts better in dalton lets be honest.

The club has acknowledged that there are some problems with drainage, some dating back long before the present regime, others caused by the work on the floodlights. I think there are plans to sort it out in the summer.

Meanwhile, given that here in the north east it is usually drier than the north west, I can only say that everything here is waterlogged. I was out walking on Thursday, after several dry days, and my feet were sinking into the muddy ground. That was before it rained non stop for 24 hours on Friday, dried up Saturday afternoon for a while, and it has been raining for the last 6 hours here.

It has been exceptionally wet. I can't get onto the allotment or ride out on my motorbike and I am fed up, and now I have no football to listen to either. I too am looking for someone to blame, but haven't found a suitable candidate yet. I may just have to grin and bear it.

I'm not a new member by the way and thanks for your polite comments about dalton.
It's a shame that people's comments can't be accepted without pointless abuse being posted in reply.
As for the facts about the amount of rain we have had it's been one of the driest winters we've had for a long time. I was in Coniston on Friday and can't remember the water level being as low at this time of the year.

Light rain for Tuesday morning with brighter skies and sunny spells by 2.00pm. Add to that a pitch drying breeze tomorrows forecast looks a whole lot better than todays.

there are numerous games off due to waterlogging particularly across the north west including Morecambe and tranmere.

Have they all got crap drainage as well or is it just unusually heavy rain?

The recent dry spell and the wind has meant the grounds have firmed up, so consequently when we get heavy rain the ground is more compact and doesn't drain the same. We have this issue in the cricket season with harder grounds, water just can't get through the surface as quick.

I live a mile from the ground, we have had drizzle all morning, I have a 6m x 30m lawn which looks wet but is not letting water pool.

Hard to compare different grassed areas throughout the area WG. I live around the corner from you and there's a cricket pitch with a mini lake on it in front of my house, a school football pitch is like a sponge to walk on. I think it was the right decision to call it off.

Apart from anything else, the sleet/rain that was coming down was [SwearFilter] freezing...!

but most would agree there is something wrong with that pitch now.

We do seem to have had a lot of games postponed over the last few years - but, we have been getting some very wet autumn & winters of late. It'd be interesting to compare how many games throughout the NW at this level were off at the same time as ours both before and since the pitch work was done.
