Very very pleasing start.

A lot of positives to take from that.

Wilson and Granite both look a class act, Brown has endless pace, Kay and Rooney get things ticking, Turner looked skilful and energetic, Hindle is obviously up to this level, and Tyler Smith is going to be fantastic.

Only player that looked out of sorts was Dan Jones - looked like he's adapting to playing a new style that isn't just hoofing it up the line.

We have to keep our feet on the ground, first half was just ok..........but that second half was blooming good to watch. Smith looks a proper goal poacher that we’ve been crying out for and Firth is an unbelievable signing, a keeper who actually marshall’s the defence

Well that was more like it, 3-0 playing football for a change and looking like they give a shit, unlike the dross from last season. The crowd reaction was brilliant and let’s the players know what to expect when they put a shift in.

A mate of mine tapped me on the shoulder near the end and asked if we’d come to the right ground. Day and night compared to last season.

That second 45 minutes was better than last season as a whole. Thoroughly enjoyable to watch and every one of them had a good game. Especially impressed with Turner. We look good going forward and if we keep solid at the back I think there's a good chance we could surpass the expectations of most if we keep that effort level going. Hopefully with a couple of decent results away from home over the next week will entice a few more through the turnstiles against Chesterfield.

How refreshing to watch a team that cares. Thought the big no.4 Taylor was outstanding about time we had a player like that in the middle of the park. Well done. Could be a decent season.

Top of the league

Yeah, on goal difference from Gateshead, and for the first time I think in almost exactly 10 years! On 15-8-08 we were top after two games, following a 3-0 starter against Oxford (just like today but no TV cameras this time) and a pulsating 3-4 away win at . . . erm . . . Altrincham I think.

We played some good football in that second half today. I had said to a pal in the first half "when was the last time you saw a corner with a bit of imagination instead of just looping one into the box, whether by Barrow or just about any team?" So, having said that, the highlight today for me was the second goal and lots of that imagination stuff on show. It's years since I've seen Barrow put a bit of thought and planning into doing something different from a corner kick; I think the last ones were under Bayliss when we had a spell of playing a low ball across and the first player dummying it for a player behind to have a go. I can't recall that working very often (if at all) so it was good to see that today's little bit of variety did pay off.

H&W manager reckons they matched us and had more of the ball and the better chances. Also implied that we conned the ref more.
