Well that was more like it, 3-0 playing football for a change and looking like they give a shit, unlike the dross from last season. The crowd reaction was brilliant and let’s the players know what to expect when they put a shift in.

A mate of mine tapped me on the shoulder near the end and asked if we’d come to the right ground. Day and night compared to last season.

Well,what a fantastic start to the season. Thought we were a nervy to start with, but when we settled down we played some good stuff. First goal was very well worked and two further goals put us on top of the league.
Full credit to each and every one of the players for the graft and to the manager and his backroom staff who have got these lads together and made them play as a team. I think there is better to come.
I expected more from H&W and thought they were generally disappointing but let's not take anything away from Barrow. Hindle was awarded MOM but I thought Captain Granite deserved it.
Onwards to Halifax and let the good times roll.

Think that's a pretty accurate assessment of the game. Still, H&W will have (I guess) kept the better players in their team who got them promotion - with stronger additions to those who were released, we have basically had to start over once again so plenty of positives to take from the game on that basis.

As PJ Daly mentions, the corner kick that led to our second was well worked, great to see a bit of imagination being used. Smith looks a clever little player who could score a few goals for us. Turner looked impressive and Taylor was excellent, on todays showing he's going to be an important player for us this season. Hindle is going to be a bit of a handful, he's certainly got an eye for goal.

I don't expect us to be doing the same to some of the better (or even mid table teams) but at the moment it's just nice seeing us play some decent football and winning.

My best friend knows the Havant manager and was asking him last week what their chances were this season and was told by their manager that he would be over the moon if they finished 5th from bottom. They lost last season's top goalscorer as he didn't want the travel involved in this league and has moved down the pyramid to play for Worthing. However, last season we couldn't beat any of the bottom teams so today was a big improvement on that even if Havant prove to be one of the relegation candidates.
