Club Statement: New Chairman - Paul Hornby

Running through his statement I sense a feeling of disappointment and disenchantment. He's not the only one.

I knew Casson was stepping back but did not quite see this one coming now! Who is Paul Hornby?!?

As accountants they must have had a look at the books and thought there was something worthwhile.

Let's not start with that nonsense. In all likelihood, there would still have been a club. We almost certainly would not have been at this level, but there would still have been a club.

I don't thank Paul Casson, he's been a massive let down and failed at what he apparently set out to do. He's broken 90% of the promises he's made and apart from a cheap set of floodlights he's left us with absolutely nothing as his legacy. Off the pitch we're as hapless as we were when he took over, aside from said floodlights the ground is in the same state it was, despite the success of the U21s so far this season we still have no real youth set up and will now go back to signing average to poor journeymen as opposed to slightly above average ones which will likely see us drop back to Conference North in the near future. We're a million miles away from the legacy Casson promised.

Thank him? Well I suppose the hope (albeit false) of something better was good whilst it briefly lasted for 18 months or so. But no, in reality there's not a lot else to thank him for.

What an absoluteley awful post. The guy put millions into the club just to keep it going and I for one thank him and wish him well

Short memories. The club hadn't/wasn't preparing or submitting accounts and was on the brink of liquidation without a pot to [SwearFilter] in.

So huge thanks to Paul for stepping in because quite frankly we would probably be several leagues below where we are if indeed we survived at all.

At the same time huge disappointment that he greatly underestimated what was needed and the horrendous costs involved. His remoteness from the town didn't help.

Maybe just maybe a local guy with his contacts and somewhat akin to "the rugby" can get the commercial side going and attract back in lots of local volunteers to make us a friendly club again

I would like to thank Paul and Stephanie and the family for their efforts for the club. Some say we would still have a club and probably we would, but it wouldn't have been in the 5th tier of the football league.
As Paul has admitted in his statement mistakes have been made but I doubt there are any football clubs or businesses where there haven't been. Unfortunately we didn't learn from them.
Handed on now to the next custodians with hopefully a steady and solid basis to build on.

Thanks Paul and family for all you have done and tried to do for the club.The financial outlay saved us and would have been playing in a field watched by ten men and a dog if you hadn’t made that commitment.The ungrateful wretches who don’t appreciate you on this thread seem to have short memories .It has been an interesting journey and I am like others disappointed at the abrupt way it has ended.I hope the new owners understand fully the task taking on and as accountants they will no doubt be exploring all financial possibilities to sustain us.I also hope there is no merger with rugby club as a result.More fans would be lost I think if this took place.Sad start to my day but hopefully a smooth transition and full support to Ian Evatt and the necessary team

I can't see how a local chartered accountancy company can possibly have the financial resources to support a National League club.
