Holkerbird wrote: Sun Nov 25, 2018 3:56 pm Yet another great shift put in by the volunteers. Whitty69 worked tirelessly, not even stopping for his breakfast break, making sure spotlights in the landing/pie bar area were installed along with other work. Jonty miraculously turning into a cleaning genius (must have worked for Betty Boop cleaners at some stage of his career). Peter (Forrest?) and his litter grabber was amazing and we all admired his thoroughness when we were going home (chauffeured by Exile---many thanks) as he had cleared Wilkie Road and upper Holker St outside the ground and it was immaculate. Then he carried his skills on to the kitchen. A great morings work with great results from him. IRVJ continued work on the pie bar but goodness me the effects of that Evostick glue was unbelievable, even spreading into the bar area where Jonty suddenly belted out BARROW give us a B give us an A much to everyones surprise. Exile happiest when he has a paint brush in his hand---players briefing room (players ex lounge area but don't get me started on that!!!) and the tunnel floor. Oldbarrowfancumback and Mabel his assistant daughter busy putting up various sponsor boards on the corridor. Big Al sorting out various issues regarding the toilets---like lack of toilet rolls etc---and providing hand towels and tea towels for the pie bar.
Les as happy as Larry with his new washing machine and back in action doing what he loves doing surrounded by piles of dirty kit, towels etc. Allan appeared after breakfast had finished as he had been busy beavering away somewhere and must have forgotten the time.
Spirit managed some painting which was impressive as he had been out last night--wink wink. Hahaha
We had a new volunteer turn up which is always a welcome sight.so thanks to him.
Gareth as usual busy with his ground duties and Ryan doing whatever it is he does, known only by him due to the Official Secrets Act.
Boylie turned up for a nosy---mistimed the breakfast 😁 and ended up acquiring us a tv for the pie bar area but requires an aerial connection which is being worked on.
A visit by Mark Hetherington for a tour rounded off the mornings work.
Well done everyone.
Great write up that Elaine, much better than Ian's 😃
Great to see fans turning up in their numbers to help out.
It really has made a difference these last few weeks and now the corporate rooms are looking decent again.
Another session on Sunday to finish off?

Agreed Neil, Elaine does a cracking write-up after a pint of Baileys..!

Never quite went to the plan of finishing off all of the upstairs last weekend, so we’ll be down for (hopefully) the last Sunday visit this year this coming Sunday.
Anyone who fancies doing a few hours helping the club out is welcome to join us from 9:00am, either the reception or side doors will be open.

I haven’t spoken to anyone about breakfast buns but I’m guessing The Bob In Cafe Will once again be supplying them. A very generous act by the gentleman who owns the cafe.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Does anyone on here have one of those steam cleaners that they could loan us on Sunday morning?
We don’t want to buy one just for the one job we need it for.

Thanks.

My daughter has one. I will bring it on Sunday morning along with the user instructions.
I have a hand one as well. Which do you want?

Thanks Elaine. We’ll need one with one of the flat headed attachments if possible. If it has various heads then even better.

I wasn't in the main area Andy so can't give a full rundown on each person's contribution but there was plenty of activity and a real buzz about the place.
Many thanks to Bob-in-Cafe for our breakfast much appreciated.
Alan spent more time cleaning the toilets as he was there during the week sorting them out.
Various people working in the hospitality rooms. Following a complaint that the tv in the one of the hospitality rooms wasn't working---it is now. I think the problem was the batteries had been removed from a few of the remote controls. There are more tv's in that clubhouse than there are in Curry's.
The rather large tv in the pie bar area has a more substantial shelf to sit on as the previous one wasn't strong enough to hold it securely.
Mark Hetherinton paid another visit and had a chat over breakfast. Toilets being the main subject. I think I can safely say they are a major concern and a main priority.
Very surprised Spirit was in attendance following a marathon family occasion yesterday. ( 12 hours 😕). I think Exile wouldn't stop knocking the door until he appeared. Said he was cleaning his teeth. 😂.
All in all another productive day----finishing at 13-30pm.
On a personal note many thanks to the maintenace lads for the bottle of Bailey's and photos of me with the first pie sold at the pie bar to mark my 77th birthday tomorrow. Mrs Exile also sent a beautiful gift so thanks to her also. Much appreciated.
I think there's another session next week.
