No-one expected Leicester City to win the Premier League four seasons ago. But they did.

No-one expected Barrow to win the National League this season. But we can do it.

With a fair wind and a following sea we may reach our destination wherever that may be, or that’s sort of how the saying goes!
The waters have been a little choppy of late in that we have been unlucky on the injury side but the crew remain committed and battle on relentlessly. We have found a new anchorman to help out and steady the ship, so hopefully the waters will calm somewhat.
Now it’s up to the following sea of supporters to play their part through November and the bleakest months to come. Then who knows as the weather abates where we end up, this is a voyage of discovery for many. Perhaps new shores to come for quite a few of us.

A £5 bet at 16/5 would return £21

It remains very open. A couple of poor results before xmas and our odds will lengthen quite a bit. Punters will continue to pile into Solihull, Yeovil and Notts County because they are seen as having greater resources to last the season. Personally I think Solihull probably should be the marginal favourites as they have a good squad that goes deep, a fine manager and probably money to strengthen. They also finished second last year. Neither Yeovil nor Countys managers have been tested in this league before. There's also usually a gate crasher from lower down and given the lack of significant quality between many of the sides there could be a bit of shifting around beyond the new year.

Lets not become victims of our own hype. Maintaining a position in the play-off places remains the priority once we get to 50 points. Dont even look at the table seriously until we've hit 30 games.

16–5 is the same as 3.2–1, so that's shorter odds than 4–1, so that actually would make Solihull the favourites currently.

OK, there's nothing on TV (there never is) so let's do this…

No, a £5 stake at 16-5 would win you £16. In fact it says as much in the odds! The return of the £5 stake is what makes the £21.

4-1 is the same as 20-5 (multiply both the 4 & 1 by 5), so a fiver would win you £20, plus the return of your £5 stake = £25.

So…
– bet £5 on Solihull to win the league at 16-5, and they do, you get back £21.
– bet £5 on Barrow to win the league at 4-1, and we do, you get back £25.
- and for absolute clarity, let's say Chorley are currently 100-1 to win the league. That's effectively 500-5, so bet £5 on them to win the league at those odds, and they do, you get back £505 ((100 x 5) + 5).

So, based on that breakdown, who are the current favourites?

No problem, paddy. Happens to us all. That was a rare moment for me. As Mrs Arvo will tell you "being wrong" is my default setting.
