Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article

Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article
Well, he's conveniently missed out a season: "very nearly relegated last May" and "a campaign of dire struggle that featured the comings and goings of three managers" were, as we all know, the season before last, but, as they say, let's not let the truth get in the way of a good story.
No bubblewrap unpopped.
Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article
He also bangs on about Barrow's location - it's football writing by numbers.
Interestingly, Gregor Robertson, who also has a column in The Times, was in the Cross Bar yesterday - presumably this week's column is also about Barrow.

Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article
How old is that article? A campaign of dire struggle? We finished 10th. It’s the little old Barrow perception thing again isn’t it. Red bricks, whippets, barren bleak peninsular. We are 2 hours from Manchester, 2 Hours from Liverpool, 3 and half hours to London/ Edinburgh, yet these articles make out we are on the moon.

"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

An otherwise good article ruined by being a year out with some of his facts
Lazy writing, methinks

Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article
I am old enough to have been at Barrow's last games in the League and the article hit a note just hope I live long enough to see Barrow back in the league, just maybe-----------------
Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article
I thought the article was generally positive and supportive, though a pity he got the chronology wrong. It's great that we are being noticed. As the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article
In fairness, I suppose if you are writing about Barrow for a general audience, it's hard to avoid what we think of as the old cliches about location, remoteness and such, though I thought "many southerners cannot comprehend how big the north is" was somewhat overblown. Hardly the frozen arctic wastes, trudging across the tundra mile after mile, is it? But, generally, I agree with Jim: a positive article, no such thing as bad publicity (Prince Andrew might disagree with that one).

Re: Sunday Times Barrow AFC article
It's more that most of it could be copied and pasted from any article on Barrow AFC that's been written in the national press. Would love, just once, for the focus to be on the football we're playing.Arvo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2019 1:17 pmIn fairness, I suppose if you are writing about Barrow for a general audience, it's hard to avoid what we think of as the old cliches about location, remoteness and such, though I thought "many southerners cannot comprehend how big the north is" was somewhat overblown. It’d have been nice had it not being written by a racist, misogynistic wife beater.
