Steelworks End wrote: Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:33 pm I'm not too despondent after this game. Barrow didn't deserve to win, but Barnet were flattered by the scoreline; if White's screamer against the bar had gone in early in the second half when the score was 0-0, it could have been a different game. Instead, Barrow switched off for ten minutes or so and conceded the three goals.

To an extent it was mission accomplished; whilst an end-of-season finale at Wembley would have been an enticing thought, in reality winning the League and Trophy double with our relatively small squad might have been a step too far, and we could easily have fallen between two stools. We have won the Trophy twice, 30 and 10 years ago but the last time we were promoted to the Football League was 99 years ago.Time to redress the balance.
According to radio cumbria it was hardcastle who hit the bar with a screamer

The result hasn't deterred the mood. All in good spirits!
Not too many spirits on the bus I hope
No need to worry about that one. ;)

Barnet fan here

Interesting game yesterday. First half we were absolutely awful... It was amazing how we managed to kick the ball off, mis control, foul just generally be rubbish. Pitch is atrocious you can see how bobbly it was and both teams struggled. Believe me we like playing it on the deck so it does really impact our style.

Obviously you rested key players, ourselves were missing our captain in the middle and we gave a debut to a young player who was well off the pace, as a result we were overrun. However Harrison gave you nothing so we didn't have much to deal with. Your number 10 saw a lot of the ball as did the bald guy in the middle. The back four you including keeper looked like a mistake was in them.... They kept trying to play out but were too slow. Platt didn't look great. First half you edged it but not much happened.

Second half, we made the change took off our debutant and Medy Elito came on and this changed the game. You started well hit the cross bar and looked dangerous... However we exposed you and 2 quick goals and we had our tails up. Akinola was lively as was Walker and you struggled to get a grip of them both.

Elito was pinging the ball around and you just started going long and with Santos, Sweeney and Reynolds that played into our hands.

Probably a flattering score based on the first 55 but after that we just upped the gears.

Obviously the league game will be different, with your players back, we will have Paul Mccallum playing which is a massive plus for us so I would expect another evenly matched game. We are a tough nut to crack now.

Fair play to your supporters who cheered your team on.

Best of luck for the season

That’s the warning sign for the rest of the season right there folks. Teams putting a high press on us and forcing mistakes.

Not really - only two of the back five were regular starters.

We nearly got caught in possession several times v Torquay, then Dixon started kicking it. By all accounts Dover pressed us high. If we are hanging on to the ball then we will get caught out, simple as that.

Torquay was clearly the wind meaning Dixon didn't really have an option to kick it long - and they were further forward for the same reason.

FC United pressed us high and it was a shambles.

Yesterday's game will have told our opponents nothing.

Will or might? It's happened once with a much changed team. If we lump it forward and play direct we will get it thrown back at us by physical, tall teams. It's worked all this time, are you saying to stop playing that way because Barnet managed to hassle a very different team to our usual one?
From the bloke who had a pop at people saying we need better cover for our strikers, that seems a bit drastic. We don't need better back up players but we should stop playing the style that's seen us go 18 games unbeaten? Strange philosophy
They were missing one player, we made 6 or 7 changes and left 30 odd goals sat at home resting. Nothing learned from this other than our back up is not reliable should anything happening to our starting players. Especially up front.

They are indeed. Whatever our respective opinions, we all want the same result at the end of the season and in the grand scheme of things, what we think doesn't matter. Ian Evatt is the man paid to sort these matters. Internet forums would be bloody boring without debate though :D :scarf:

Just watched the highlights and before I did I guessed that one if not all of the goals conceded had something to do with Granite.
Pulled out of position for the first two and failing to win a header for the last.
I get it that he's been out for a while and he's a great guy and good to have around the squad but he's definitely not good enough for this level or even the one below.

Highlights:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vAKaqs2UR4

Shambolic defence, defenders at 6's and 7's.

Only highlights in attack were 1 save in 1st-half and 1 shot in 2nd-half that hit the crossbar.

Nothing else shown. Says it all.
