I heard our Chairman on RC sports talk last Friday night on about the new canopy roof that is going to be erected on the Holker end during the summer.
Can anyone shed any light on this-why is it called a 'canopy roof' ?, instead of just a 'roof' or, just a 'canopy'.
And does anyone know if the new erection will run the whole width of the pitch and, will it be adequately deep enough to keep the rain off all the spectators that gather underneath it. And will the new erection have numerous uprights the same as the Ray Wilkie stand that are a nuisance in terms of viewing the game.

Could be wrong but I thought they were almost replicating the old style roof? Think the canopy refers more to fabric type covering? Again could be wrong?
Whatever it is,its better than what we don't have and its something I and everyone has been almost begging for for a long time.

I think having cover for away fans is a criteria for entry into the football league.
That is one of the reasons it needs to be erected.
Tests are being made for suitable foundations.
It will be the about same size as the old cover at the Holker Street end.

It's fixes to the back of the Holker Street Terrace where most of the load is taken and arches over with supports at the front. As opposed to being a roof with wider pillars at the front that take the load.
That's my understanding of it anyway.

Incorrect,Accrington and Macclesfield are 2 grounds that spring to mind that have uncovered away ends.

Yeovil when they were in the league and Gillingham too. I thought it was requirement to have a certain amount of away fans covered but wondered how these clubs met that.

Can't find any planning applications on Barrow council website for the new roof, so presume they haven't finalised a design yet. Knowing the eternity it takes for the council to come to planning decisions - a roof going up in the close season looks slim. Hope I'm wrong.

That would be a cantilever roof. One going spare at the end of the season at Griffin Park- Brentford. Was hoping we may try and recover that.

My limited understanding. Its canopy because of cost and to do with foundations.

In his interview Paul Hornby said plans were being submitted soon.

The club know about it, it can’t be feasible or they’d have taken it a step further.
Even if (even if) it was a good fit (a massive if) there’s the dismantling and transportation costs of dragging it over half the length of England. That alone would probably rule it out.

The criteria is that we have to provide covered away support for away fans. Currently we don't provide that because we can't effectively segregate the away fans in the main stand.
Accrington and Macclesfield have uncovered ends but have covered seating elsewhere in the ground therefore they meet the criteria
