Mental Strength and Showing Bottle
Everyone knows that we are playing the best football in the National League. However, league titles are won by by teams who possess far more than good footballing skills. Solid mental strength, excellent team spirit and having 'bottle' are also characteristics exemplified by trophy winning sides.
If last Saturday's performance (last 20 mins) are anything to go by we seem to be lacking in that dept.
Okay; we lost our main striker but our heads seemed to go down and we didn't stick together as a team. Rooney's shouting and bawling at his own team mates, for mistakes he was often making by himself, were uncalled for and aren't the kind of qualities a team captain should be displaying on the field of play. Leading by good example is the way to go, John.
Just hope the last 20 mins were a mere blip - a bad day at the office.
We've lost more than an excellent striker for the next 3 games. Scott is a player who can shield and hold the ball well, allowing our other players to run and find space. He is also a fine distributer of the ball. His loss is a big loss!
Now is the time to stick together, knuckle down and show our fighting spirit and determination.
A forum member recently uploaded an article from 'The Athelete' onto this forum. I was surprised to read our manager's comments relating to our team formation and how we like to play being displayed on full view for everyone to read! I can't recall Pep Guardiola, Sir Alex Ferguson or Zinedine Zidane ever telling all and sundry how they like to play against the opposition?
Ian Evatt is doing a fantastic job and should be commended for how he has got the team playing such attractive football. However, he is still on a learning curve. I think he displayed extreme naivety allowing his comments on our team tactics to be reported in such a manner. It could be because of external factors, unrelated to that magazine article, but it does seems strange that our results have declined since the publication of his comments.
I didn't like to hear about the behaviour of Josh Kay (apparently it was him) when being subsituted during the Dagenham fixture recently. Apparently, he refused to shake the hand of Ian Evatt as he was leaving the field of play. I couldn't attend the game so I'm relying on the comments relayed to me by a friend who witnessed the incident. Not the kind of thing one likes to see. Grow up Josh! Respect the decisions made by the Gaffer.
Let's hope we're not losing our bottle?
We're good enough to win this league.
Don't let yourselves, and us fans down, by losing the plot at this late stage, lads.
Hopefully, Harrogate will get beat at Solihull tomorrow.
If they do and we beat Wrexham - we'll be 7 points clear.
Means we have to lose 3 fixtures for them to catch us.
Game on!
C'mon you Bluebirds!

Most of that was nonsense. we are not losing or bottle, we are not lacking and we will win the league.

Re: Mental Strength and Showing Bottle
I truly believe we have a squad of very confident players who are mentally strong. There's not many weak links.
Keep our nerve and we will get enough wins to see us over the line. Even against an in form Notts County side prior to our own silly decisions we never looked like losing, absolutely dominant in that first half.

Mistakes cost us Saturday, not bottle.
Re: Mental Strength and Showing Bottle
Human-beings at the end of the day and football is a passionate game and emotions can run high on pitch and in the crowd. No doubts that we have what it takes to win the league.

Only a personal view, but to me this post is drivel. It says nothing meaningful, other than the poster isn't bad at stating the obvious (unneeded).BillyWhizz wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 4:36 pm Everyone knows that we are playing the best football in the National League. Re: Mental Strength and Showing Bottle
Let's be honest the team has done far better than any of us thought.
I get frustrated at Rooney the 2 consecutive missed penalty he should have followed up after the save ,think he missed 3 consecutive last season.
Let's be honest Ian Evatt made alot of our players go beyond.
Rooney has been around the likes of Guisley and York.
Quigley only had a good scoring history in the Welsh League.
The team have far exceeded themselves.
We feared if Quigley got injured but it was the red card that's been his downfall.
Not sure if Harrison is fit or disinterested but we need the original Byron Harrison to step up ,Ian Evatt seems to think he is good enough,he used to be a good penalty taker too.

Re: Mental Strength and Showing Bottle
Those saying that my post was nonsense and drivel, get a grip!
Can you pinpoint the parts that you perceive to be nonsense and drivel?
You'd think that I was taking a crack at the team! I was merely being objective and stating an opinion. Is that okay on here?
I've probably followed the club for more years than most on here - in Div 3 and Div 4 days I was stood on The Holker End.
I was reluctant to join this Forum as I'd heard there was a clique on here who tend to bully those who have a differing opinion to themselves.
The best way to deal with bullies is to retaliate; so bring it on!
Those with an objective viewpoint and who tend to see the world in reality rather than through rose tinted glasses, let's discuss football, Barrow AFC and enjoy putting forward 'constructive' points of view. Those who can't do that? Well; you might be better off joining the legions of keyboard warriors and gobsh*tes who continually spout shi* throughout the season.
Up The Bluebirds!
