The effect of passing time is forcing all football associations to reconsider their options. However UEFA do still seem committed to having its cake and to eat it. It still seems to be looking at its "senior" European Leagues and expect them to finish which the Prem seems very committed to doing.

UEFA has not defined what the "special circumstances" might be in which it would sanction a cancellation and neither does it explain what "cancellation" might mean. The story alludes to the Belgian League being "cancelled" but in that instance a result was declared. So "cancellation" doesn't necessarily mean "voiding". It could in theory however make it slightly easier for the Prem and the EFL to agree separate endings without compromising European qualification rules should they want to do so.

Am amazed at that outcome. Can only imagine that someone has read them the riot act and put them straight on what the financial consequences might be for refusing to play on.

Am now awaiting the sound of a crashing football club.

Yeovil have already said they are not going to vote - so if the vote is close the league might have to wait until the 7th May - as if Yeovil change their mind and do vote it could be a critical one....

So "special circumstances" essentially can mean where the government of the country in which the League is based do not want clubs to play behind closed doors. Lets see what happens. As Dutch clubs will want entry into European competitions I'm assuming they will declare the season as per Belgium.

National League clubs reach majority to end season

Ian Dennis

BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

National League clubs have reached a majority in support of a resolution to end the season for all fixtures scheduled up to and including 25 April 2020.

Ninety per cent of the 68 clubs responded in the vote and a clear majority were in favour.

"The League’s Board has chosen to communicate the decision now and before the last few responses are received, which will not change the outcome, to enable clubs to make business decisions with greater clarity as soon as possible," a statement said.

"Clubs yet to respond still have an opportunity to do so, and the League wishes to include as many preferences as possible before the final voting result is declared."

National League Chief Executive Officer Michael Tattersall added: “At a time when the entire country is wrestling with the devastating impact of Covid-19, the cancellation of the remaining normal season matches brings a degree of certainty to our Clubs coping with the business implications of the virus.”

AFAIAC the club can keep the money. They're going to need it.

BBC reckons we voted to end the season now.
