clearly this guy is a WUM, as the Fylde chairman pointed out yesterday, no club has had any communication from the league in a month. AS has been mentioned, the league had asked the FA for permission to extend in order to hold playoffs, as he quoted "none of us knew about it, none of us had been consulted" he's disliked by many, especially after the Evatt episode, but no doubt the clubs are still talking to each other, despite the league not talking to the clubs. Its probably already been mentioned, but the league voted not to have play-offs and to end the season, although they now seem likely as, of course, the clubs in the play-off positions voted for it, hopefully this wont include us though and it's just a straight promotionChris Benoit wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 4:16 pmYou don't really know m8NORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 2:04 pm
From what I was told this morning no ones lost the plot and it all adds up perfectly even down to the silence coming out of HS.
Not going to go into detail just get but let's say meetings took place this week that wouldn't have taken place unless Barrows place in League Two was absolutely certain.

Re: Decisions being made
I'm OK with the current "do nothing" position of the NL. It has at least shut the mouths of some of their member's chairmen - for the time being. The issue is whether they have fully understood the extended "do as we eventually do" message as this will only become apparent when the EFL decision finally comes. Its also why it's important that the EFL framework statement is simple and easy to understand rather than leaving room for interpretation.Bombadel wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 9:28 amclearly this guy is a WUM, as the Fylde chairman pointed out yesterday, no club has had any communication from the league in a month. Whatever noises are coming out of the NL seem to indicate their willingness to do this and ironically they seem to be re-converted to the idea of 2 up - which is good. That is why I've come to the conclusion that the one area where their discretion will allow their competence to be tested is the issue of relegation from the NL.
Even with play-offs, they can take their lead from the EFL in respect of whether they do actually happen or not. No so with relegation if 2 up happens
And I doubt the FA will force the issue unless it feels it has to. Which ever way the NL goes there will be a shouting match - possibly the last big shouting match of this process. As long as the EFL framework is accepted I'm not that worried that we'll get dragged into that row, but the outcome could slow the conclusion once again.
Re: Decisions being made
I think it would be grossly unfair to include us. We are in the automatic promotion spot so would have everything to lose by playing knockout matches (quite different from playing 37 games and staying at the top), whereas the playoff contenders have nothing to lose and everything to gain. And who would make the decision on whether Quigley's ban should be enforced or overturned? And, of course, if Barrow, Harrogate and Notts County play off for one or two promotion spots, is that fair on the teams from 4th to 7th, who might have had a chance of promotion?
Can of worms!

And I think you.ll find the NL asked the FA about a dispensation to extend the season to accommodate the prospect of playoffs more than 6 weeks ago and that a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and at the time it was stated that it was being done clearly just to comply with an existing regulation as definitely restarting the season and probably holding the playoffs [ only a distant possibility if the FL told them doing so was the only way of getting a second club promoted which at present they're not ] and was in effect something that would never actually be needed.
Please tell me you're not relying on Dogfood Dave for your information because if you are ? study his track record he changes his mind on things at least twice a day and is constantly firing off his letters to the other NL owners most of which dispatch them to the nearest bin because they have his number in that contrary to what he says he has only one plan here and that's stopping AFCF from being relegated in fact i.d go so far as to say he gets a hard-on every time there's mention that an NL club might be about to go bust as he only needs 2 or is it 3 for that to happen and Fylde are safe.

Re: Decisions being made
Well we are back to that EFL rule that any changes to play-off formats in the NL have to be approved by the EFL council pre-season. So changing the play-off format would not be discretionary. Its not that the EFL couldn't sanction such an idea. But having committed to a quick, simple,four team play-off system for L1/L2 why on earth would you support some tinpot league re-inventing the rules.Jim wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 11:28 amI think it would be grossly unfair to include us. Further the chances of play-offs actually happening at our level are still pretty small. Given the amount of time that it would take for the NL to come up with a wacky plan, approve it through due process, pass it to the EFL for sanction to approve it through their due process, organise it (work out how I'm going to get 2 teams up from 7??) release players for training and conditioning etc. etc. etc. Well you know where I'm going. We would also have a right of appeal to the FA and ultimate sanction of taking the NL to court for abuse of its own rules. You'd be lucky to have play-offs before the year end.
Complexity is the last hiding place of a desperate man.

Dogfood Dave? Utterly Brilliant. However I do believe he also does a fine line in supplements for horses.
NS - You may be blunt but some of your words are undoubtedly true. As the debate on play-offs showed we are probably still too fixated on comments made by said DD many weeks ago. And lets just say I recognise your colourful characterisation of the man.
We treat him as being a bit of a demon but in reality there are far more influential voices out there that choose not to articulate their views so loudly. What is definitely true is that the closer it gets to a situation where Fylde would be relegated the louder he will get.
Re: Decisions being made
These comments were made yesterday about the possibility of play-offs/lack of contact from the NL, but it does contradict itself a bit as he mentions he's in close contact with our club secretary and NL director Sid Blaine,Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 12:13 pmNORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 11:30 am Who said the meetings I referred to were anything to do with the NL ?

Re: Decisions being made
National League update:
(From
@Iandennisbbc
on Football Focus)
The League is prepared to wait until the EFL makes a decision
Playoffs remain possible
The League believe they can assure the EFL that the team relegated from League 2 will have league fixtures next season.
And: Ian Dennis
@Iandennisbbc
May 29
The National League prepared to wait until the EFL is resolved (8th June) to make its final decision. Play offs remain a possibility and the Board keen to protect 2 promotion places into the EFL. Would want to follow L2 model of finishing the season with PPG and the play offs.
That all seems straightforward.

Re: Decisions being made
It’s very straight forward as long as a team is relegated from League 2.......

Well if this is anything to go by, league 2 testing players from the 4 teams occupying a play off spot.
Can we assume PPG. Automatic promotion, play offs and relegation ????

Re: Decisions being made
I thought null and void was kicked into touch. According to the above it is festering below the surface. Someone make a decision. Maybe June 8th we might have a clue.
