I'm not too sure of that Whitty. I guess your thought might be that the NL could in the event of two short invite both Kings Lynn and Wealdstone into the NL without relegating anyone. To be honest if that's the way it panned out it wouldn't bother me that much.

There is the issue of how long Macc will be given to face their charges and whether this overlaps with the framework agreement vote - which it probably will. This would mean Stevenage might have to be technically relegated before being potentially reprieved. The issue will be whether Stevenage are still in that slot when the NL meet.

Someone will tell me how long Macc have got to respond to charges or request a hearing.

If Macclesfield were to be expelled / fold / relegated by more than one division, then as SB says, that would mean the National could be two clubs short for next season.

I imagine that the two highest placed clubs in the relegation spots (current or PPG) would then be reprieved, which would be Maidenhead United and Ebbsfleet, as has been the practice in the past when places in leagues have become vacant. (the F.A. have always preferred reprieving clubs as opposed to promoting from below)

But Chorley & Fylde would still go down if the framework is applied to the National.
That in turn would mean some re-jigging as both are Southern clubs.

Hopefully this issue will not hold up the framework of PPG plus promotion/relegation, but this really is a soap opera now.

I think IF it is Macclesfield coming down there is every chance they would be put in NLN like Boston were, which would mean NL is 2 clubs short, so either;- Wealdstone and Kings Lynn up on PPG and nobody gets relegated - or them 2 plus York and Havant and Waterlooville come up and Chorley plus "Dave's club" go down.

I think the answer is that it gets more messy still and will be influenced by the context in which the decisions have to be made. Assuming that the EFL framework agreement is approved, at that point Stevenage will technically be relegated. The EFLs expectation would then be for the NL to meet in short order to finalise its season. But Macclesfield's position is unlikely to be resolved in the next week.

So when the great and the good sit down around the virtual NL table its possible that they will still have three possible scenarios to have to consider i.e.

Scenario 1. Stevenage are relegated; Macclesfield find some way of saving themselves and remain in L2; One down. Two up. NL ends up with 23 teams before NLN/NLS situation considered.
Scenario 2 . Macclesfield are deducted points and are relegated. But they remain viable and (under EFL regulations) have a right to be placed in the NL. Stevenage are reprieved. One down, Two up. NL ends up with 23 teams before NLN/NLS situation considered.
Scenario 3. Macclesfield are essentially liquidated and cant take a place in the NL. Stevenage are reprieved. Nobody else is relegated. Two up. NL ends up with 22 teams before NLN/NLS situation considered.

This assumes this the EFL framework is passed. If the scenario was a one up only, the possibilities could be endless.

.That would be the same independent panel that at the last hearing recommended that there should be no further charges on matters of late payment of wages. And then you have the issue of they're way past the cut off date for any punishment to be applied this season.


Macclesfield said in a statement that they are "deeply surprised" by the charges.

The club also pointed to part of the independent panel's findings from their most recent hearing, which stated: "The commission should make it clear that it does not consider MTFC's tardiness (yet again) to pay the players' remuneration for March on time necessarily requires a further charge. Given its reasoning and conclusions as above, it would require strong persuasion to impose a yet further points deduction for any such breach."

The FL really are no longer fit for purpose instead of harassing clubs they should be lending them the cash to pay the damm wages. And as for the players, they really must be bloody thick in that if you want your wages paid on time don't sign for bloody Macclesfield town.

Did they learn nothing from the Bury fiasco they are supposed to be there to protect the clubs their fans and their communities and if they don't have the regulations in place to punish owners rather than clubs then they should be changing them. Make the club owners personally liable for the fines and if they still don't pay send High Court enforcement in. A few Ferraris disappearing off club owners dives might start to focus a few rogue owners minds a bit.

Yes I saw that statement too. But what it tells me is that the EFL are determined to - as they would see it - sort matters out.

My guess is that the payment issue is simply the basis for getting Macc back in front of the tribunal again. That might trigger release of a couple of points suspended from the last deduction. Macc need to lose 6 before they would go bottom.

The iceberg lies in the additional charges which sound quite woolly but can be interpreted in any number of ways. They can be inferred to imply that Macc failed to act on the directions of the EFL last time they were up before the judge (non payment of Feb salaries) and further there is an implication that Macc have actually misled or misdirected the EFL. The EFL could actually use as evidence the non-payment of March salaries and the method by which the April salaries were (ultimately) paid as de facto evidence that Macc were not acting honestly. This as they say is "serious sh*t" and I'm sure the EFL might argue that punishments in these cases would be exacted immediately.

I agree with you NS. Its brutally unfair that a club and its supporters should be punished for the sins of its owner and it sort of takes me back to the last days of Steven Vaughan. But this guy has been pulling the EFLs collective plonker since the outset of this season. We might be about to witness payback.

I think the issue there is that he gives them a budget and an amount he's willing to put in each month but from what i.m told they overspent in both August and January against the budget they were given which means that if the guys running the club on the ground cant get a bit of cash in [ like the 10k their trust put in ] then they have a problem and then have to go back to him with the begging bowl and although he usually coughs up its never in time to meet the pay date now at most clubs that wouldn't be an issue but from what i.m told there are 3 players who report then the day after they don't get paid on time.

My info comes from a former senior employee who left a while back but who still has friends there and who is pretty well up on what's happening and who is very upset at the way the FL is treating then especially after all the crap they got for doing what they did to Bury.

The EFL, like the FA has an unhealthy fascination with individuals who have a fancy cheque book and a platinum AMEX card. They seem to succumb to this type of owner time and time again. Its very likely a reaction to their perceived need to drive up the value of their product, thus mimicking the Premier League to which of course the EFL aspires.

In circumstances such as we are currently experiencing it is those clubs that have their funding pipelines stopped meaning that they become incredibly vulnerable very quickly. Their owners then become those that demand additional funding from the Premier League or EFL or FA. Until that model changes there will continue to be clubs like Macclesfield that will find themselves in this type of situation.

Looking at todays statement from the Macc SST, I also notice, that in addition to anger, fury and conspiracy accusations a plenty, the following comment in their statement regarding their relegation rivals:

"We believe that there is also evidence of a deliberate campaign by a League Two club with everything to gain by further points charges against MTFC to utilise the ‘old boys network’ within EFL League 2 to heap huge pressure on the EFL which they have clearly bowed down to."

That'll probably earn them another charge. But quite possibly true.

Those alleged relegation rivals have just hired Lennie Lawrence as part of their management team. Odd timing given that resumption of any football at that level or below is unlikely for some time. I dont think Stevenage are a club who will do something without good reason.

If only Stevenage weren't so crap. Three wins out of 36 games. Their owner is a very ambitious guy - you know one of those that never takes No for an answer. His interview with the NLP at the weekend where he pledged to advocate his support for 3 up as long as the NL owners could see fit to only promoting one team this season was a mark of Mr Wallaces ego. He must've had Dastardly Dave positively wetting himself. I can see a bromance developing there.

given that the PL and EFL start dates will be put back as PL and the Championship won't be completed until late July they will likely not start until say September - so a months would have been probable anyway in the NL. It just depends how much longer it goes past that... Also IF Macclesfield don't get any more points deductions the EFL and Stevenage might try to use that to stop Stevenage going down? maybe?

The National League says the EFL ‘remain supportive of maintaining promotion & relegation’ this season.

The League says the decisions on deciding the season will be ‘referred to clubs in due course’.

No decision have yet been made on whether the playoffs will take place.

A positive message, but not giving anything away, but seems to suggest that two up, two down will take place, I think.

interesting that the previous statement above only asks clubs to respond if they disagree, perhaps the board are finally beginning to flex their muscles.
