Re: Decisions being made
Social distancing will go out of the window as soon as all the shops re open.. Maybe in barrow it can happen but where I live the streets will be too busy.. There isn't enough space to socially distance and people are either too stupid or selfish to abide by it.. To me there will be less risk of getting something at the football than going shopping
Back to the case in point.. The national league saying it won't be able to start in August (nobody will) plays into the hands of those that don't want stevenage down.. Null and void of our league needs ruling out..

As Barrow has the highest infection rate and deaths per capita of almost any town in the country I suspect social distancing has probably happened less in Barrow than almost any other place!Bingo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 4:39 pm Social distancing will go out of the window as soon as all the shops re open.. Please check the facts around how those figures came about because it's a misleading comment that the media jumped on !russell_anderson wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 6:06 pmAs Barrow has the highest infection rate and deaths per capita of almost any town in the country I suspect social distancing has probably happened less in Barrow than almost any other place!Bingo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 4:39 pm Social distancing will go out of the window as soon as all the shops re open.. Re: Decisions being made
Ollie Bayliss' tweet seems to be a mixture of conjecture and quote. If you read the tweet it initially looks like the NL has asked its members to agree that the season cannot start behind closed doors. However, on a second reading it reads like the NL are simply suggesting that an August 8th start date will need to be revised.
If the NLs position was simply that it would never contemplate playing behind closed doors for any period then it could in theory be voting for its own extinction. There have been views expressed (dont share them) that there will be no supporters present until the New Year. Were that to be the case and were that to be the NLs position there'd be no NL. But then in that scenario there would be no L2 either in its current form. What you dont see from the NL tweet is the hand its holding out whilst making it.
The blunt truth is that football at this moment in time has no viable future in either L2 or the NL beyond the end of the Government furlough scheme.
Wycombe (looking as if they could be promoted into the Championship) today issued a statement urging their staff to find other jobs whilst still under furlough. The message was stark - that many wont be coming back when furlough ends
At some point between August and October the system will collapse unless it receives a cash settlement either from HMG, the FA or the Premier League. I dont believe a new season would commence without such a settlement simply because there would be no point. But its not beyond our powers of comprehension to imagine that such a settlement will be forthcoming though under what terms and from where, who knows.
I'm sure Stevenage will seize on this as a potential olive branch. As for Macclesfield, well they could be just a memory by the time we begin talking seriously about new season start dates. But I dont believe that the EFL is going through this excruciating framework process if it has no plan for itself beyond its next decision. In fact Rick Parry is the only guy at the moment who looks like he has a plan and for that I'm thankful.

Re: Decisions being made
The NL season literally couldn’t start on the 8th August, if the EFL is running until 31st July
All leagues should plan to not be starting until at least September, by then we should be able to see some form of crowds at events

Agree. The issue will actually be - can the NL start their season at the same time as L2 and when that will be? It may not be any date in August. But until the EFL announce start dates you cant really challenge the ability of the NL to match them.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 7:26 pm The NL season literally couldn’t start on the 8th August, if the EFL is running until 31st July

If anybody was to suggest that next season will start in early September perhaps initially behind closed doors but with a defined ramp plan to commence reintroducing crowds within weeks in low but increasing numbers from no later than October and with full attendance to coincide with a certain confidence level regarding a vaccine being reached then I'd be tempted to agree. You could also put some realistic funding around that kind of plan.

Hope I'm wrong, SB, but I'll be surprised if there's a vaccine by next October let alone this one! However, much more chance of an existing medication which might removed the worse effects of the virus i.e. stop people dying.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 8:12 pmAgree. Did you hear the football show on BBC tonight? It seems about 5 amendments have been put forward for the Division 1 and Division 2 options including the one from Tranmere and the last one being by Lincoln which they were interested in as Lincoln have no vested interest. I think their suggestion was PPG but a modified points deduction in some way although I only caught the end of the discussion. I think it would modify the points deducted from Macclesfield but am not sure if it increased or decreased them!

EFL Statement: EGM Proposalsrussell_anderson wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 9:20 pm

The EFL Board met today and considered a number of proposals submitted by EFL Clubs in respect of proposed amendments to EFL Regulations in order to determine what will happen in the event the 2019/20 season is curtailed in any EFL Division.
This now brings an end to a comprehensive consultation phase and Clubs have today received formal notice of the meeting which will now take place on Tuesday 9 June 2020.
At that meeting Clubs will consider a number of different proposals from both Clubs and the Board of the EFL."
Re the Stevenage position - as far as I'm aware it would be inequitable to modify regulations to primarily suit the needs of one club (Tranmere proposal also suffers in this respect). It has to be an all embracing change. So I doubt that the scenario of people putting their hands up and asking to save Stevenage will happen. The EFL seems wedded to the idea of promotion and relegation also.
Their salvation might come in a different way. What I do find interesting is your point about a possible (modified ppg) Lincoln proposal combined with an EFL acknowledgement that they themselves may be submitting amendments. This might indicate that the Macclesfield situation is going to be dealt with either by the EFL or perhaps a "stalking horse" if that's more palatable.
The EFL want 72 clubs and promotion and relegation. Others may want Stevenage reprieved but will be aware that Macclesfield are teetering on the brink but that cant be confirmed just yet. Dealing with the Macc situation at the EGM could end up being a classic compromise. If this does surface I suspect it will be around the issue of - in the event of a curtailment and the application of unweighted PPG how do they treat the points deducted? (i.e. gross or net of total points earned, number of games played etc.) There must be one calc out there that would put Macc on the bottom. Perhaps they should ask Tranmere to work it out.

Re: Decisions being made
All the smarty pants stuff about footy starting in PL and CL in particular (because of money) will backfire. A spike is absolutely inevitable, and the chances of us watching the mighty B in League 2 this year are are very slim indeed. We will go up, but to what where and when are obvious considerations. I hate the thought of not watching football at HS, and I have missed it massively, but better get used to no live football until the boffins worldwide crack the immediate problem. Easing the lockdown to get the economy up and running is irrelevant re our level of football and whether we can attend matches. . The plague currently upon us is still a huge worldwide problem, and it will be for ages yet, and the bugger is amongst things, it spoils our enjoyment of the best Barrow team for years and years.

Cant disagree with your sentiments HTB and it has pained me in particular to see the high rates of infection in the South Cumbria area. Though Carlisle and Preston now seem to be hotter spots. All I can say is that the situation is different in other parts of the country. In Suffolk where I am they recorded only 1 new daily infection recently and the attitudes of people (rightly or wrongly) are changing rapidly. Most services that have re-opened are operating normally albeit with social distancing.Hitthebar22 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 11:32 pm All the smarty pants stuff about footy starting in PL and CL in particular (because of money) will backfire. Here, the tone of the discussion re coronavirus is just different and less pessimistic. I suspect that when the far less important topic of football next season is discussed it will be the Southern clubs in particular driving the debate around attendances. I've heard it asked already by Ipswich Town fans that if you can happily fit a couple of thousand people into the local park whilst legitimately social distancing or on a beach in Southwold then why cant you fit at least a few thousand into a 26k capacity Portman Road. I do know the answer to that question, but those voices will get progressively louder. If we get to a point whereby pubs, restaurants and cafes open without a spike in the "R" rate then before long you'll start to see clubs demanding rule change.

We are all prone to extreme speculation on here, particularly at the moment; it’s the nature of the beast. Some of it informed, some of it not. A lot of it is second or even third hand hearsay. Despite lots of people hoping to be able to go watch football soon, hope is never a strategy. Beating this plague requires a dedicated and responsible attitude to its seriousness. Generally, an irresponsible attitude Is starting to be displayed because people are getting bored. In consequence there is a huge danger of a spike, and if that happens we can forget football (and many other things) for many months, even into years.

Exactly. I can see the 'spike' being not too far away at all. Complacency will be the general publics downfall here.
I fear that the best team we have had in years will not be celebrating in the way that we had hoped for because the government will flex its muscles in not allowing official mass gatherings at lower levels of sport. In other words the government cant control so much the beaches and parks but, 'they will' make a point of curtailing gatherings at low level sport.
