No point in side stepping. We could well finish above Bolton next season. Bolton might have a big ground but so do a lot of teams playing at our level and below. I guess the fact that they are looking at managers who can work well with a small budget gives an idea of their financial position. Could well see them dropping down to Conf North.

Re: Ian Evatt
Bolton's natural level is about league one, which is where they've spent far more of the last 40 odd years than the premier league, also take away followings away and they only average about 8 000 at home, we will probably average around 3500 anyway, so not the massive club and step up everyone makes out

Re: Ian Evatt
I would be very surprised indeed shocked if Steve Whiston Ian Evatts agent has not spoken to Bolton about the vacancy. It is an agents role to make sure his clients are in the best job available that suits them. This does not mean Evatt will go in fact i doubt he would take the Bolton job but an agent would not be doing their job if they did not make enquiries on behalf of his clients. We all know Evatt never spoke to Fylde but i have no doubt his agent did thus securing a better deal for Evatt to stop at Barrow.

Absolutely, I don't know why vulture capitalism has such a bad name. Re: Ian Evatt
I dont really have much to contribute to this thread and I'm not sure that anybody has posted on it since the Bolton story broke that actually has any pertinent knowledge.
So i'd genuinely like to thank NothernSoul for stating a few home truths and stopping this thread drifting into a namby-pamby debate about the decline/fall/rise of Bolton Wanderers Football Club a story that has been retold almost since the day Phil Gartside said bye-bye to Sam Allardyce.
If Ian Evatt were to be desperately needed by Bolton it would not be because they see him as the man to return the trotters to a state of renewed glory but for the simple reason that they would see in him someone who could stop the rot in that club, whilst operating within a limited budget. After all this is what he has achieved at Barrow so far.
In that respect NS is spot on. The idea that Bolton is a club that is about to be resurgent is very much one touted by Bolton supporters. Bolton Wanderers continues to shows all the signs of being a badly damaged outfit masquerading behind an undoubtedly fine stadium that they will not be able to fill even once supporters are allowed back.
I'm not saying that IE will or will not be tempted by Bolton, but the idea of him being romanced by the history of a fallen behemoth is pure crap.

Bolton. Ryan Lowe compo will be around 200k. Plymouth unlikely to budge. Ian Evatt figure roughly the same. Quality doesn’t come cheap.

Re: Ian Evatt
Surely Evo will want to start his League 2 career in familiar surroundings with us. He has great support here and a team that will continue to develop and push on. Stepping into the unknown with Bolton- a rebuild job and an additional challenge with the way the world is right now , not knowing how football will restart for League 2. He may want to avoid at this point.

Firstly the reporter seems to admit that the reason that Ryan Lowe and Ian Evatt have emerged as frontrunners is because of the declared views of supporters and the media. This is equivalent to saying that someone is now favourite "because we think he should be".
Secondly whilst we all love IE for what he has done and are all convinced of his potential if I were being truly objective AND were convinced that Bolton had the resources to buy out either of Ryan Lowes or Ian Evatts contract, then honestly it would not be IEs I'd be looking at. Ryan Lowe's CV in getting both Bury and Plymouth promoted from L2 would be far more relevant and worth the difference.
Its a bit of an insult to Plymouth of course as they are now in L1 and their owner has just sunk an additional sum of money to clear Argyles debts in addition to the £6million he has put in over the last 4 years. Its a view based on a perception of Ryan Lowe as a northern chap desperate to come home and once again to the apparent overwhelming opportunity that is Bolton Wanderers.
Of the three names that have been mentioned, Lowe, Evatt and Lee, Lowe is by far the most outstanding candidate (were he actually interested or available), and Lee, having been closely associated with the youngsters that have actually been playing for Bolton in the last 12 months is the safe and sensible candidate. I'm not sure what that makes Ian Evatt.
Re: Ian Evatt
Evo is a choice based on looking at a league table and hearing some interviews on social media. Probably more of a fans shout that a football insider's opinion. We all love Evo but Ryan Lowe is who I'd want if I was a Bolton fan (based on the names touted). Ian needs to have a solid first EFL season with Barrow before he is a serious shout for big clubs.
Re: Ian Evatt
Bolton have got a transfer embargo for another 12 months. I'm fairly certain that under the restrictions, they won't even be able to offer players as much money as Barrow can. Good luck to any manager building an entire new team under those circumstances.
Re: Ian Evatt
I think if IE is given the job it's on the basis that he could build a team on a small budget, according to our Chairman our budget was a mid table budget.RedWeb wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 10:52 amEvo is a choice based on looking at a league table and hearing some interviews on social media. I think he will leave eventually but Bolton will be a leap into the dark.
I think he will stay with us for our first season and hopefully he will do well.
Look how the Cowley brothers went from Lincoln to Championship
He is quite astute and realises if he wants a long career in Football he needs to choose his moves carefully.
