Ian Evatt
Re: Ian Evatt
Scanning the comments I conclude we know no more than we did several days ago. Which wasn’t a lot.
Re: Ian Evatt
One thing we do know evatt wasn’t announced Wednesday as first promised. Or Thursday when boltonfanbrians mate on the board said it was a done deal. Or Friday when Johnno and the Bolton news told us it was also a. Done. Deal.

Re: Ian Evatt
Bolton's strategy is simple, obvious and straight-forward.
Essentially it involves getting Evatt in and making use of his flair for putting together a functioning team without paying any fees or paying significant salaries. That is what he has done at Barrow. His task in the first year is to stabilise the team - nothing more nothing less. The Barrocelona stuff would come later.
The team he will put together at Bolton will in terms of quality and depth I would guess look very much like Barrows squad over the last 12 months. If you think that BAFC could survive a season in L2 with last seasons NL squad then that gives you a good idea of what an Evatt side might be capable of at Bolton next season. If he can survive that and beat the embargo he will possibly then be trusted with a (small) pot of gold.
Its actually pretty risky stuff because things can happen in the next 12 months that IE cant foresee and would be powerless to do anything about. He'll end up putting his trust in people he doesn't know and has no previous knowledge of. And he will essentially be repeating the experience of the last two years which is the bit that perplexes me - the fact that he seems to be wedded to the idea of reinvention and repetition after only two years in management when he could've used the next 12 months at BAFC to explore and develop further without significant damage to his reputation.

Re: Ian Evatt
Do we know that Evatt wants to join Bolton? I think we can assume he’s interested, but he must be concerned about the off field situation. I’m guessing that Evatt will want to look their chair and board in the eyes in order to judge their characters, their commitment to the future rebuilding of the club, and to assess whether he can form a successful working relationship with them on a day to day basis. As Bolton do not yet have formal permission to talk with Evatt, though I think we guess there has been some informal contact, that crucial meeting and assessment will not have taken place.
Re: Ian Evatt
As mentioned earlier, Bolton have took on a Director of Football to oversee the progression from academy to the first team. They obviously see Evatt as the man who can mould these into “mens football” having watched all the glossy “Barracelona” vids out there. A total rebuild job at Bolton and a whole new approach. Basically if he gets the gig its what he did here, there.
He’s two years down the line here and we are ready to take off in L2 if he stays, absolutely certain he can have us right up there at the end of the season.

Re: Ian Evatt
Just under a year ago 09/07/19 The Bolton News ran a story that reported the size of the debt owed by Bolton Wanderers. It was the massive sum of £25m owed to around 300 different creditors in the way of secured and non secured loans, ranging from £10.05m (to the company that looked after the affairs of the late owner) to £6k owed to the local pie shop. Sandwiched in between was HMRC, the local council and scores of small businesses. There was also £2,7m owed to football creditors.
I agree entirely with NORTHERNSOUL’s sentiments (and other posters) that if I was on that list of creditors (the small local businesses locally) I’d be well pi$$ed off that 12 months later the same football team (under different ownership) can now put themselves in a position to try and entice Ian Evatt by considering to pay the money that is required in his buy out clause(whatever the figure maybe)
Park the business side of things but I bet they are pushing their luck with the FA.
To finish I applaud the efforts of all our current board of directors in steering our team along a solid financial footing. Operate like the mighty Bolton Wanderers and you end up with your just desserts.
If Ian Evatt does leave we will move on from there, personally I hope he stays and pushes this team and our great club to the next level.

Re: Ian Evatt
In his interviews he has very often said that the Barrow team is not the finished article, and there is still plenty to be done to mould them into how he wants them. Then the next we hear is that he's thinking of jumping ship. Does he no longer want to work with this team that he thinks so much of or is it the prospect of a bigger pay day that interests him?Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 6:43 pm And he will essentially be repeating the experience of the last two years which is the bit that perplexes me - the fact that he seems to be wedded to the idea of reinvention and repetition after only two years in management when he could've used the next 12 months at BAFC to explore and develop further without significant damage to his reputation.
The bit that bothers me is the club he has chosen, given their past history.
Evatt has obviously got some talent to do what he did this season, just can't understand why he's prepared to throw that away on a club that has well documented financial problems, leaving one that hasn't.
He might be on better money short term, but long term? I doubt he'll be there in 12 months one way or the other.

Re: Ian Evatt
To be honest, we’ve allowed our thoughts to be clouded by oddschecker and social media tittle tattle. Add in a few mischief makers and we’ve been guilty of assuming this is done and dusted.
Winning things draws the attention, but he has a job to do here and has all the backing and a team in place.
I hope this is put to bed soon and we can looking forward Evo leading us to a great season in L2

Re: Ian Evatt
Presumably, Nigel Clough will be too expensive for Bolton?
It was evident from the outset that, even with a squad partly inherited and partly assembled at haste, there was a clear intent to play in a certain way. Evatt wanted his team to play in a different way from that to which we were accustomed.
Having seen an early friendly and that at BPA, I was pleasantly surprised by the first league performance against Havant and Waterlooville. Stood with what turned out to be Josh Granite's brother (nice guy), I remarked on how focused Barrow seemed. "Don't worry" he replied. (I may be paraphrasing.) "They know exactly what is expected of them."
If there is to be a new club for IE then they should expect no holding operation. Players will survive or fail based on whether they are able to do exactly what the manager demands.
