We will be in league 1 by then anyway so they will be too expensive for themAdam29 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 3:42 pmThey can’t sign them until the summer of 2021 so I wouldn’t worry about Bolton getting any of our playersJonty wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 3:24 pm
Yep, for now. Of course we cannot pre-empt the next managers ideal squad or player target list, but there are some key players in our team that I hope get offered improved deals. They deserve it and will protect us in some way, because absolutely nailed on he’ll be back in for the likes of Quigley, Rooney, Kay, Hardcastle, Angus. These players are key to us and would improve his team.

Yes, so the likes of these players, who have been key to our success, to protect us, I hope they are offered new deals. These players are our assets and will be instrumental in building around over the next few seasons, certainly would be in an Evatt team. An improved contract and at least any summer 2021 move for these players (by any team) would command a transfer fee. Yes I rate these players highly and crucial to our team as we look to build.

Re: Matty platt
The big hold up with Evatt at Bolton was the haggling over his NL contract and L2 contract so we are led to believe. I would presume that all the players have an uplifted contracted because of promotion, just like it sounds Evatt had.
On that basis I would say we are OK

Haggling over his contract, we are lead to believe, what you talking about. The hold up was Bolton struggling to make the full buy out clause.blue future wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 4:14 pmThe big hold up with Evatt at Bolton was the haggling over his NL contract and L2 contract so we are led to believe. Re: Matty platt
Not wishing to be the voice of doom here Jonty and Russell, but do we really want to extend their contracts for another season (2021-22 and beyond) just yet? We don't know how they are going to adjust and perform at this higher level.
I do not doubt for a second that if they do make the step up with ease that the board will try and sign them up for the longer term if that is what the new manager and the players themselves wish to do.
But not immediately.
Some of them have just signed improved deals over the last 12 months, to give them another pay rise so soon risks inflating their egos not to mention increasing the wage budget overall and starting on a slippery slope.
By all means reward success but only when it is achieved, not just because you want to stop someone poaching them. You never know, Bolton might end up with players better and cheaper than our stars, so IE might decide against a raisd on his old club next summer. How foolish would we look then if we had jacked up Quigley et al another notch on the payscale and they were not performing?

Re: Matty platt
I wasn't actually suggesting we gave everybody longer contracts. The club can only pay what it can afford. My concern is only that if we did want to extend a player's contract before it ends that it may be more difficult if Ian Evatt has told a particular player there would be a place for him at Bolton.Richard Ingham wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 10:12 am Not wishing to be the voice of doom here Jonty and Russell, but do we really want to extend their contracts for another season (2021-22 and beyond) just yet? Re: Matty platt
Hornby has got his two year embargo on Evatt approaching Barrow players. I'm assuming that applies only to those under contract.
You have to allow a new manager time to assess what he's got and whether they fit into his squad. You can do that by Xmas latest and then do the business if you can.
If any of these players are so wedded to Evatt that they will want to follow him slavishly then that will become apparent pretty quickly and the club then have the option of sale and a fee (not to Bolton) well before their contracts expire.
If Evatt could take three or four of them now I'm sure he would try. Simply because he doesn't have a squad at all and he probably knows that at worst the quality of our current squad would be a decent enough place to start. The embargo stops this and means that he will have to construct a new team which he will have largely done by the time these players are considered for contract renewal. His interest at that point will be tempered therefore.
Having said that we should collectively thank Ian Evatt for instilling these contractual disciplines into our commercial mindset. Ironically he has come up against the very principles regarding player retention that he himself instilled into BAFC. Thanks Ian.
Still think we have a somewhat idealised view of our squads capabilities that to some extent was perpetuated by Evatt himself. Looked at objectively some of our squad would have been considered to have had exceptional seasons; others would be seen by L2 observers as being competent journeymen.
Other than Quigley who looks like he might have another division in him - and who himself has been resurrected - everyone of that squad needs to demonstrate that they have what it takes to compete at the new level. If their form slips or nose dives I'm not sure the philosophy of waiting for Bolton will count for much. If they continue to excel and still shine a light for Evatt, then as above you get rid and get paid.
Evatt should really pull out the stops for Platt, but he may be hampered by Bolton's constrained position. Depends on what Blackburn want. To be honest he was clearly showing L2 form last season. So fitting in to an L2 squad next season would be more of a continuation than a challenge. It would suit Barrow or Bolton more than it might ultimately benefit Blackburn. If they could get him into an L1 squad with a good chance that he would be played that might give Blackburn a better evaluation of his true potential.

Re: Matty platt
Platt might be getting the same treatment as did Ryan Yates who was great for us.
Brought here I think by Cox due to his Midlands connections with Forest.
After a spell with us he was loaned out to League 2 Shrewsbury ,then League 1 Scun thorpe.
Watched him last night in the highlights playing for Forest.
So the next move unless it was into his first team would be L2 Barrow would signal continuity ,Bolton for his like of I.E.
Of course all down to the new manager.
