The jury is still out for me, let’s see how he copes when things are going wrong or how he uses substitutes or how he sets us up tactically.
I’m going to stick my neck out and say lower midtable at best. Which is not really good enough.
I hope to be proved wrong and I eat a massive slice of humble pie.
Realistically survival is the key for us to allow us to get EFL money and develop the club. I hope people aren't going to kick off if we're far adrift of playeoffs but safe from relegation when we've got a new manger and are comparatively a tiny club compared to some in this division.
Absolutely spot on. I get the feeling some think we’re a club with limitless resources!
New league, new manager so a decent cup run, survival & playing decent football will be perfect for me.

Let’s not start heaping unnecessary pressure on the set-up.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

We are more than capable of doing it without him as well. Standards and expectations seem lower now he’s gone. That’s a shame.
Agree. I dont want us to slip back into "survival" in this league is a good season mentality, but i sense it. Evatt would have had none of that.
Not heard dunn say mid table? He's made no predictions other than to say he's ambitious.

Dunn hasn’t, some on this forum would be happy with it.
For me it would just about do. We are capable of more in my opinion.

We were promoted in a wave of euphoria. Three weeks ago it was a case of “bring it on”. Now some are back to the best we can hope for is that we “survive”. I think our retained players will adapt very quickly to L2 and if he can bring in his key targets, then we should be aiming a lot higher than to just “survive”. That is not pressure on the set up, that is what he will be setting out to achieve.

Let’s not start heaping unnecessary pressure on the set-up.
Given the circumstances of the last few months its really difficult to predict what we can expect to achieve next season. And that was before we lost our manager.

Financially its even less clear what our additional funding will actually buy us. I read a post on one forum that suggested that in 2019/20 the smallest operating budget of any L2 team (i think it was either Macclesfield or Morecambe) was something in the region of £2m-£2.1m. If you take the total amount of available grants, prize money and assume average gates of 2200, I reckon that would get us to roundabout that figure (gross of taxes etc.). So anyone that thinks that we are going to carry any financial clout needs to think again. Further if we start behind closed doors then even with live streaming it could be difficult to reach those numbers.

On the other hand however, income needs to be set against costs and it is clear that the amount of accumulated debt in League Two is seriously higher than it should be and that for some L2 clubs, lockdown has rapidly turned this into a life and death struggle, with even decently placed clubs desperately shedding higher paid (better) players just in order to reduce costs and survive. Income has fallen dramatically, costs have not. Because this has happened so quickly, many clubs will not really have planned for the changes they've had to make and this suggests that as things stand some squads may well be pretty patchy going in to next season. In fact its going to be a very unusual and unpredictable season in all probability.

In contrast we've run BAFC using sound rules and without letting debt accumulate. We have not had to shed players and in comparison with some profit and loss summaries elsewhere we are undoubtedly now in a better state. Being small and reasonably well run historically doesn't count for much (you only need to look as fr as Bolton to see this madness already repeating itself) but my suspicion is that for the majority this will now change. So whilst we may have to raise our game to compete at a higher level, it is undoubtedly also true that L2 football is coming back towards us both financially and in terms of quality.

We are going to have to continue being smart with what money we do have just as we have in getting to this point. However if we can continue to be smart then what we can expect is that our money might go further than it does for some of our competitors and that's how we progress and move forward as a club. That model is the one that the current board have been building over the last two years. It wont change simply because we've gone up a level. We have the right BoD, building the right business model at the right time.

In all the talk about David Dunn, whether it be about his temperament, experience, interview technique etc. one required attribute has not really been dwelt upon and that is his ability to be able locate quality individuals (not just by pillaging the Blackburn Academy) and find a way of getting them into the club without breaking the bank. Evatt was supremely good at this and as far as I'm concerned that ability will tell me more about the new managers prospects than any interview.

Just staying in the league next season would be an absolutely huge success, if we do well great, but people shouldn't have stupid expectations.

Stay up, steadily grow the team/club with extra cash league should hopefully bring, repeat.

You’ll do for me guys (SB & Steeley).
It is historically engrained in me that we are a Conference North club trying to consolidate in the National League. What happened last term was a blistering purple patch the like of which we have never seen.

Maybe my mindset will now adapt to me considering ourselves a National League club trying to consolidate in League 2. Only time will tell.

Whatever happens this season it's absolutely imperative that the town stays fully behind the club. Im sure, if fans are allowed back, we will sell out the first few home games, but we need to be prepared to keep turning out in numbers no matter what. This new board deserves that from us at the very least

We talk about the Evatt Blueprint, it’s gone to rat Sh1t already, I’m certainly not saying we should break the bank or risk the clubs future but we should be aiming higher than mere survival. Let’s strut onto the L2 stage with confidence kicking the door open and announcing our arrival, “Barrow are here and we’re going to f**k you up! rather than peaking round the door and meekly asking if it’s ok we play there, because we don’t believe we belong in this division.
This is our big chance, let’s grab it.

Sorry about that Jonty, but that is what it has done to me over the last 50 years whereas your euphoria seems to be based on the last 50 games. Whatever league we are in l will be there on the terraces giving it what for.

My mindset is similar to others above, i.e. let's just be safe in this league for now. Not scrabbling around in the bottom 3 or 4 all season will do me just fine for this season and anything else is a bonus.
But my heart says just go for it, aim for the very top, game at a time mentality.

When we get enough points to stay up then I'll start wondering about the next goal.

Absolutely, and I honestly believe if we've got everyone over promising thinking we are going to get promoted to league 1, if we are down the bottom people will go back to slagging us off and not turning up. Back to 1200 attendances in no time.
