Over engineered? Too many posts. Cover will be appreciated and capacity upped but many will have obstructed or restricted views.

Probably looks worse than it is on the pictures with them being new and no roof on yet.
Adds a bit of character anyway

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I believe the pillars support most of the weight as opposed to the back wall.

That could explain the need for more pillars with good foundations, as it will take the strain off the old terrace/wall

With the strong Holker St winds it probably needs extra support to stop it ending up on the 8:20 Millom express.
How does it make you feel to know that you voted for this?

That appears to be the case from the drawings submitted for planning permission, presumable to avoid demolition and rebuilding of the terrace.

Amused at the thought that an organisation might specify something like this to be 'over-engineered'!

My post was prompted by the latest twitter pictures which show only the first six steps have a clear view, unfortunately, unlike the popular side the steps start at pitch level. I don't know why but as I saw the plinths being put in I assumed they were to support one post but it turns out to be two. I'm sure there is more metal work needed to cage the plinths and stop people standing on them. Great to get some cover, I'm sure it will add to the atmosphere and looks like a good two thousand will be housed in there safely it just seems such a shame a thousand of them will have restricted views.

i've had a look at the photos and, yes, there are quite a lot of support columns that may restrict the view. However, probably not many more (on the front row) than there were with the old stand in the 60s. And anyway, it is mainly for the away fans isn't it ;)

I don't know how they are going to divide it percentage wise but plenty of home supporters are going to be in there.

Yes it does seem a very strange arrangement when all hey would have needed to do was to buy a metre wide strip of the pavement and they could have erected cantilever roof stanchions outside the back wall which i.m pretty sure would have been a lot simpler cheaper and would have provided a much larger capacity with none of those bases in the way

You say simpler but that would involve buying something off the council, changing the land registry to update the new footprint that we own etc.

I personally don't see the problem. Pillars obscuring view isn't as bad on end stands as it is along the touchline. And it's not like we're talking huge thick pillars that you can't see around.

As i was the Surveyor when the main stand was build i can safely say that you're completely wrong on the costs - the cantilever idea would have been far more expensive and needed much bigger steel sections, not only that but the foundations for the cantilever steelwork would have undermined the external wall and that alone would have made it a ridiculous and unsafe idea.

I always new that pillared supports were needed but do think we needed so many when they are only bearing the weight of steelwork and no brick etc. I understand the piling had to go a long way down and safety will always demand more than needed but quite so many?

Looks good and should make for a good atmosphere. ‘‘Tis a lot of pillars though.
