Why oh why pick on Cheltenham? About 170000 people attended Cheltenham but millions that week used the tube in London. I don’t hear that getting mentioned Racecourses are again banned from allowing small attendances at racecourses that are in wide open vast spaces but the government are encouraging people to return to work using public transport ie the tube in London. You couldn’t make this crap up. Oh but hang on this government is as it bumbles along
Yes, not sure that Cheltenham was a factor other than in the court of Twitter from 'after the event know-alls' and the opinion of Sir David King. Happy to be corrected.

Given all the Irish that attend annually it should have caused big numbers of infections there but numbers over the following weeks suggested not.

Similarly The Guardian appealed for six consecutive weeks for people who had attended big events before restrictions were introduced and subsequently contracted the virus to contact them, apparently without success although the Atletico Madrid match in Liverpool raised questions.

The (not disinterested?) Racing Post did an analysis post Cheltenham.

This is Boris’ latest, you could argue that in a stadium crowd of 1000, none of attendees are there in their own group larger than the “rule of 6”......the fact that they’ve all attended a sports event at the same time is the bit that is not clear on the rules on that :? But he did say this.....

“We must also I’m afraid revise plans to pilot audiences and review intentions to return audiences to stadiums on October 1.

“It doesn’t mean we’re going to scrap the programme entirely but we have to review and abridge it. The culture secretary is to speak on that shortly.”

The news threw even the most financially successful sports into uncertainty with the chief executive of the Premier League, Richard Masters, saying the “main risk” to the competition was a continued loss of matchday revenue.

The point made today by government that they intend to introduce a 20 minute test, to then allow people into stadiums, theatres etc, is positive.

20 min tests are a long way off I'm afraid.

20 minutes for a result. So.....you have a queue at a venue to take the test, then hang around in hundreds or indeed. thousands, waiting for the results. Then you have to have the result checked before they let you in.

    I can't see that working.

Without a vaccination or instant test results I cant see fans returning and if they do it will be very low numbers allowed in at social distance just my opinion so frustrating though I just hope clubs can survive but I cant see how they all will without fans allowed in i cant see the same amount of people that would normally attend games paying for i follow and im not sure how much clubs make off that but I'd guess its not much when compared with what clubs make off gate receipts

How come the rugby are allowed hundreds of people getting lashed on their pitch but we can't have hundreds in holker street spread out?

One of my worries is the potential for the clubs with big stadiums having huge advantages over the likes of Barrow especially if they allow a percentage of capacity. Bradford, Bolton, Port Vale and Plymouth will be allowed crowds of 6 - 8,000 based on 30%.

Is that not the same at 100%?

No because 30% of Barrows capacity is 1,800 ish, possibly half the crowd they might have got where the clubs with big grounds will have crowds that they might have expected anyway.

Just announced that Non League Day on 27 September at Wembley will have a maximum of 1,000 fans in attendance. That's about 1/80th capacity. So talk of 30% at Holker Street by October may be a little ambitious at this stage.

Won`t be surprised if League 1/2 goes to PPG again this season so we must be well away from the bottom 2 while the matches are played. if fans are not allowed in before xmas the season won`t be finished and many clubs including us will be in danger of folding.
