Mangement interviews
Mangement interviews
A decent read, highlighting training problems and some of the pools of knowledge David Dunn has tapped into;

Re: Mangement interviews
The contrast with that and last season is massive.
I think a few people have talked about the 'little old barrow' mindset creeping back in and this interview smacks a little of that.
I appreciate he is being honest but just being competitive is such an undersell. It is this mindset which contributes to a loss of momentum. Need to see a bit more positivity from DD both on and off the pitch.

Re: Mangement interviews
Think you might find that the way DD talks during interviews is not a deliberate ploy or tactic but rather a facet of his personality. That makes him more difficult to empathise with or appreciate and very unlike that the last manager who is just the opposite though it has to be said that some of the stuff IE put out for public consumption was sometimes a bit dubious and was often done for his own reasons rather than to simply communicate to the faithful.bigmac95 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 2:20 pm The contrast with that and last season is massive.

Also worth remembering that quite a bit of what he said, whilst convincing, were lies!Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 11:23 pmThink you might find that the way DD talks during interviews is not a deliberate ploy or tactic but rather a facet of his personality. Re: Mangement interviews
Might be a reference to communications regarding the size of our operating budget. IE was always keen to publicly articulate how small it was i.e. "bottom 6 budget" when Paul Hornby himself - once the season had ended - confirmed that this was not the case. If it was a lie I'd say it was a white one and designed to keep the club in the public consciousness which it did. This was typical of Evatt's communications strategy - to big up the club whilst accepting that he was indirectly bigging up himself, and probably also why the Board never openly sanctioned him for it.Charlie Farnsbarns wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 9:18 amSuch as?mightywhite wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 1:05 am

In actual fact the Board and owners didn't say a huge amount last season, commenting only when they thought it appropriate or necessary. The rest was really down to Evatt himself or the Trust or Club Administration. What we have now is a manager that, rightly or wrongly, is a reluctant communicator and doesn't have a defined strategy for doing so. The Board approach hasn't changed so the effect is that the level and frequency of communication is noticeably poorer.
It might be that because of our history as a club that is never too far from a precipice, that we have come to expect our Managers to be extravert, and audibly passionate about the squad and the club. It was clear to me from the moment his name was mentioned as a replacement for Evatt that he was a totally different character and led me to wonder how well he would relate to some members of the core squad who had responded to Evatt's "lead from the front" style. All I can say is that his character and personality would've been fully on show during the interview process so the Board would've been well aware of it.
Re: Mangement interviews
It may be that IE and PC were both correct - when he made his post-season comment on the budget, Paul Hornby added something on the lines of "if you take bonus payments into account". Presumably bonus payments for winning the league would have provided a reasonable addition to the expenditure on the playing squad.
Water under the bridge. A great achievement by a team manager and squad who were not predicted to achieve such success, excellent management by the owners and what proved to be a first-rate managerial appointment by the previous owners.

Re: Mangement interviews
This came through to me as well after listening to some of Adam's interviews with Dunn. I hope that if that has happened those players and Dunn can work together to take us forward.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:19 pm It was clear to me from the moment his name was mentioned as a replacement for Evatt that he was a totally different character and led me to wonder how well he would relate to some members of the core squad who had responded to Evatt's "lead from the front" style.
I think we also have to remember that we are living in incredibly difficult times for all walks of life, and all connected with the club have had a steep learning curve to be playing behind closed doors, which is obviously very strange for everyone. That doesn't look as though it's going to change so we all have to adapt, everyone at the club and supporters alike.
Different managers have different styles and as Dunn was the choice of the board we must get behind him and them, because the Board in particular is doing a cracking job.
If supporters can give Dunn and the team some positive vibes these may come through to give us improved results.
Re: Mangement interviews
I suspect DD does not come across the same to the players as fans looking at the 2 playing records of DD and IE you would say DD had the better playing career he played international football the players will respect that and getting his point over to them will be easier
IE was a bit car salesmen like at times tell them what they want to hear and always looked immaculate which gives more of a impression of confidence where as DD looks like he was just come off the training pitch.
How much did Evatt coach day to day and how much was Atherton on the training pitch? You get the impression Dunn is very hands on with that part.
DD will get better with the media side after a few wins, he is still finding his feet.
