Fowler now in India and no doubt on a fabulous wage. His reported wealth is £50M, so don’t think he would take what we might be able to offer.

I'm not talking now, they are the 2 who the board had in mind in the summer.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 10:39 am Fowler now in India and no doubt on a fabulous wage. His reported wealth is £50M, so don’t think he would take what we might be able to offer.

Some top trolling by a few on here. Not usually a fan but the way some people (including the bookies) bite is amusing to watch.

It wasn't expectation that got David Dunn the sack. It was results. 2 wins from 17 games would put any manager under pressure whoever was the manager before him. In fact, there would have been zero pressure on David Dunn if he had even managed 5 or 6 wins from the 17 games and we had a reasonable cushion from the relegation spots. If Dunn's successor does no better than 2 wins from 17 games he will be under exactly the same pressure as was Dunn.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 11:15 pm In many ways the role for an incoming manager is more simple than it was for Dunn. There was so much expectation (rightly or wrongly) generated after last year. Evatt was a tough act to follow in that respect. The task is now much more straightforward for the next incumbent - do whats necessary, deliver enough points, keep us up.

Surprised to see Ady Pennock joint second in the betting.
I thought like Dunn he was a decent man but we could not win a game at home, our away form was better but it took the defeat of woking I think to save us.
Not a fan of returning Managers or players.

Thats not really what I was suggesting Russ. This is a results business and I would agree that all the recent "2 wins out of..." stuff whilst a bit monotonous and lacking in much sympathy was spot on and would result in the termination of any manager at any level. I'm simply suggesting the instructions to the new manager may more immediate and involve less flowery aspirational issues that could be confused as priorities. Essentially three words - Keep Us Up. That in itself will shape the type of manager that they go for. Their odds of selecting a "better" guy should therefore be improved.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:04 amIt wasn't expectation that got David Dunn the sack. I wouldn't want to insult David Dunn or draw conclusions in hindsight from too many comparisons with Ian Evatt. That would be unfair. But it has struck me a someone sitting watching events from a couple of hundred miles away that DD almost since day one exhibited a few signs (in his demeanor, mood, difficulties sometimes with expressing himself) of struggling to cope as a person with certain aspects of management. If you are presented with a brief that mixes priorities such as continuing the legacy, developing the shape and style of the squad and the given of getting results, its not difficult to see how this could overwhelm anyone who did not have a significant ego, let alone a relevant experience.
If the BoD is doing its job, it will take away some of the softer strategic aspirations from the next guy for the time being and focus him on one overriding priority. That's why it might be simpler for the next manager.

Certainly agree that the new man's instructions will be simpler. Get us some points one way or another will be his brief!Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 2:28 pmThats not really what I was suggesting Russ. Re: New manager - Who do you want?
I think Phil Parkinson is a good shout.
Proven at this level, experienced and surely could be tempted away from altrincham, who are doing very well at the moment.
As much as a I think the board have done a brilliant job so far we don’t Really have any experience organisationally across the club At this level, so a more experienced manager I think would be good for where we are.
Parkinson ticks the boxes.

The Parkinson at Altrincham is not the one you are thinking of

Parkinson is pretty disliked at every club he's been at due to the dire football he serves up. But he would probably get us organised and conceding fewer.

Pennock favourite, but I can't see him getting the job.
Re: New manager - Who do you want?
For me Being right for this job is 80% ridding the negative perception that held us back for years and was only eradicated under Evatt. It had started to resurface under Dunn who made it clear time and again that “we had made a big step up”. So someone with a track record of bringing everything together on and off the pitch, because that is crucial. The football side of it - we all want someone who has had a bit of success and hopefully wants to play nice football, but for me its equally important to have someone who sets a high bar, makes no excuses and sets high demands on performance. whoever it is- no calling us a “project”.

I'd rather the job went to Kelly than pennock comes back he does not have a good record in the football league, it must just be someone lumping money on it
