What a depressing first season back, obviously the no crowds is not the clubs fault or the postponed games, but the staggering hiring of Dunn which has left us teetering on relegation and now this covering up his short falls as a manager with his signings by effectively dumping them signings on the scarapheap and replacing them with better players , then having the gall to ask us the tax payers to pay for them, this was not what furlough was introduced for and sits unfavourably with me

Absolutely inevitable that this was going to happen. And other clubs would be stupid not to follow suit if they are not already. For those feeling some shame at this news the actions that really need to be condemned are those that have ended up with us having so many players on the books - more I think than we've ever had at any time in our history as a professional club. Acquiring other players at the same time simply emphasizes the fact that those in charge at the club appear totally complicit if not in control in all of this. It doesn't just happen by chance.

The way the dignity of the club has been perceived by the wider community since the day we were promoted is changing pretty dramatically. Perception is not necessarily reality of course but our pursuit of survival in the EFL seems totally at odds with the way we went about trying to secure our place in the EFL.

Horrified by this story, total abuse of the system and even though a loophole may allow it, it's morally wrong without question. Not a good way to treat some players that have given so much to the club over the last year or so by the sounds of things.

Our own media manager was strongly critical of it when it was announced that Chesterfield had done this.

Agreed. From the latest update, "the owners have kept in constant contact to ensure that we were recruiting against the strategy set out at the start of the window". A recruitment strategy that was set out at around the time a director stepped down.

As of five minutes ago, there was still no official response from the club. If true, which the story appears to be, I don't think there is a defence, there is no mitigation barring a u-turn.

I imagine morale amongst the squad must be pretty low right now. The exact opposite of what you want in a relegation scrap.

The likes of Hird and Brown deserve far better given their commitment to the club over the past few years.

If it's true that 'at least six' players have been offered furlough, that means it's not just the four who didn't make a 22 man squad... Jason Taylor will most likely be included too, unbelievable after everything he's done for the club. It all seems like utter madness to me, woeful mismanagement.

And of course it's ridiculous that clubs can even furlough players while their league is continuing, we can blame the inept government for that one.
