I agree to a point, but if another club comes offering more money and the player has no loyalty to the club, what in all honesty can you do.
What you can do is say Scott we appreciate your situation and are quite willing to release you from your contract so long as either you or your shyster mate Whiston can find a club willing to pay us 500k upfront.
And talk about refusing to train and play are concerned given what was already public his only way of doing that [ by persuading his GP to give him a sick note ] would have been very difficult as it is pretty certain that in the player's contract will be a clause that entitles the club to have a specialist in whatever he was claiming was wrong with him examine him and if he provided a report saying he disagreed with the GP.s assessment then at the next renewal of the " sick note " to sign him off again the GP would have to go against the consultant's opinion and in the world of medicine that's not how it's done.
Accrington had this problem with Billy Kee although slightly different in that nobody thought that he didn't have issues or that BK was trying to engineer a move He just wanted out as he couldn't take the pressure anymore but doing that meant AS would lose a major value asset. As I understood it they assisted him to get for lack of a better word " certified " which meant they were able to claim insurance wise. In return, he can't change his mind and play at any level higher than he is now without his new club repaying the insurance company what they paid out.
I.m not sure i.d of played it the way Hornby has I think i.d of tested him first knowing that he simply couldn't have refused to play and train I believe [ if he openly did that without being " signed off " ] a club can stop a player's wages after 2 weeks and then you come to what happens a year down the line when his contract expires if he's stayed away and you.ve not paid him for a year what's to stop you offering him a new contract at a pound a week more which means [ even tho he.s out of contract ] you can refuse to release his playing registration meaning his career and earnings are at a stop.
My Guess is Hornby will have accepted a fee that gives them as much as they could get without getting into legal and tribunals the cost of which could very quickly reach 100k so I reckon he.ll have wanted 250 but settled for the 150k release fee as has been mentioned to avoid the hassle and the outside possibility that he could end up with a victory but having spent the 250k to get it.
But now we come to Stockport and their undisclosed fee scam if what they actually paid for Maddern was to be the highest fee they've ever paid for a player who do they list as their record signing without either divulging it or lying to all and sundry ?
And to finish I really don't want to [SwearFilter] on your parade but i.ve seen Zanzala play for 3 different clubs over I think its 6 years and if I was a scout doing my homework on him my conclusion would be not to touch him with a barge pole the phrase I think is " flatters " to deceive and with the service, he got at both Accy and Carlisle he should have scored twice the goals that he did. And please don't believe you got him for any reason other than the following its pretty sure that players at the end of their contracts at Carlisle are now placed into one of three groups Group A Definitely want to re sign so happy to offer a rise in wages from the misery amount that they no doubt originally signed for. Group B Happy to keep them if they're stupid enough to sign again for the misery sum they did before. Group C Want to get rid of for whatever reason Offer them no increase on the original wage which will have been totally crap in the first place. Bennet is the perfect example signed for next to nothing to get back playing again with a manager he knew wouldn't take the [SwearFilter] out of him and who he would know couldn't pay any more than they offered him. No doubt Beech promised them the earth when it came round to a new contract but what he didn't do was explain to them what Holdsworth's role would be. And guess what it all ended up in tears and acrimony with the player making his offer public and DH telling him where to go.
I genuinely hope you find someone to replace Quigley and not rely on Zanzala and that you have a season to remember in the League in front of your own fans at last.
