Still think the club needs to consider bringing training to Barrow at some point and that means a vision / plan similar to that which Carlisle Director talks of in the earlier post. We have allowed ourselves to think that the only way we can attract players is to have this nw base in place. Its not ideal. If we are going to move to an academy and try and bring some of our own players through then this has to be the aim. A collaboration with a local club to invest in their pitch, a local gym. It has to be beneficial.

Where do the players go after training back home and then travel back next day, even contractors have digs to stay in or should the players just stay at the dunes hotel all week.

Yes. If you are a Barrow AFC footballer then it goes with the job that you will spend some time training / stopover in Barrow. (Friday before a Saturday game we do anyway), Monday before a Tuesday game. If the facilities in Barrow aren't there yet then what do we need to do? What partnerships can we go into with other clubs / gyms. What about the college and their 3g pitch. Are we ever going to try and move things closer to Barrow?

I'm afraid that is a way to ensure that the team rapidly descends down the pyramid because at this level you will not get players of the level required who will either move to Barrow to live, stay overnight for a week or travel up to Barrow and back every day. It just won't happen.

At some point in the future the club will have to consider the longer term solution for training and surely that would include bringing at least part training closer to home. I do not think its unreasonable to stay in Barrow 2-3 nights a week if we had a good facility here. Travelling goes with the territory if you play for Barrow.

So thats a huge increase in fuel expenses , accommodation and time away from their families. Also to be paid for by the club which would mean paying players larger wages as Cooper already stated. A massive increase in mileage and commitment to travel which has already at its lower level been an open reason for players going elsewhere. A location would need to be found and vastly upgraded as no football facility round here is up too the level off football league standard. If the worst ever happened and we dropped down too non league. You d find it extremely hard too bring lads in imo and we would nt have the budget we have now. Why break the platform for success that has been used for 10 plus years? It allows us too bring players in and it works. This going wrong this year is purely down too bad planning on our behalf and was the same when Dunn was here we did nt learn to sort this early and it should have been top off the list too sort before the season began. Its like driving your car without an MOT madness.

Everything you say is correct and I am well aware of those things- costs, attraction to players, risk of relegation, etc. But these things exist in all scenarios.
For me the longer term training needs to include a facility that is within the area. We have a 3g pitch at the college, we have gyms, we have pools, we have grass pitches, so this would be a joint venture thing. We want to get an Academy up and running so we need these facilities here.

We have Mottram Hall now one day a week but as I said earlier in Paul Hornby programme notes from Fridays he stated that Mark Hetherington is heading up a project staring immediately regarding the training facilities for the players and this will incorporate the clubs academy plans.
What would help in Barrow is if the town had a full size 4G pitch. Its bewildering that even though we have a town councillor working for the Lancashire FA and has done for a number of years a town the size of Barrow still does not have a full size 4G facility.

I know this will never happen but to move on and develop and be sustainable we need a new complex if i could finance it it would include new stadium with training facilities , hotel, entertainment section say bowling ally cinema , fast food/restaurant etc, make this a focal point for families , even if you don`t like football make it an area people want to go to.
Just a pity we haven`t got people to make this happen, it might sound a dream but you have to think big nowadays for too long in Barrow we accept second class facilities we all deserve better, this if it ever happened would give us all something that would make us proud and would definately help the community in general !

DistantNeutral wrote: Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:57 am I understand Accrington Stanley only got their training pitches (long term rental from the council) last season after nearly 10 years back in the football league.
Ha Ha and that lasted all of two weeks due to the state they were in and although they've not been back since AH has now renegotiated a long lease [50 years i understand ] that will allow them to invest in the site starting with fencing it in to keep you the local dog fraternity as well as the nutters who seem to think ruining the pitches with their bikes and quads is a good idea followed by the installation of some proper drainage.

I live about half a mile from the site and it will make a great training complex when finished but at the minute its a hell of a long way off that but they seem to have found a couple of new training locations this year and always have the fallback of using their Community Trusts excellent facilities [ even tho that use does break the covenant on it and gives ammunition to the local nutcases who opposed it in the first place ]

So Accy are a long way from being that club pre AH who were training anywhere they could find a bit of grass but who still have a very long way to go before becoming one who have their own all singing and dancing complex.

But Accys situation makes you wonder whether BAFC have approached your town council to see if they have any playing fields that are no longer in use and are costing them cash to maintain even up to the minimum standard as was the case with Hyndburn Council in Accy with both the trusts facility and the one now earmarked for the clubs new training complex.

One day a week. Where do we go to train when not here?
And the next question then has to be what happens to the pitch at Mottram hall for the rest of the week ? You really can't see there being a queue of organisations wanting to rent it on weekday mornings

One day a week access to training / pitch facilities for a full time league club doesn’t feel like a solution to training. Where else do we train?

One day a week training facilities is an embarrassment
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it

This has been answered countless times. Rakesmoor Lane on the day before a home game and, presumably, we arrange somewhere local to away grounds.
Don't let the old man in.
