The 1000 extra seats required.
Re: The 1000 extra seats required.
The building of the "Fan Zone" has limited what you can do at that end at the moment, I believe the decision was made to do work in the Cross Bar was made for cost reasons in putting the changing rooms Etc., under the stand was too costly but surely if they had not built the fan Zone the money could have been used to actually do the work under the stand, I believe the Fan Zone was a mistake limiting what you can do there at the moment.

Re: The 1000 extra seats required.
I think the most sensible solution would be to extend the main stand as that would definitely look better.Initially perhaps two temporary prefabricated structures at either side with access possibly from the main stand. They could be assembled on site with a roof and sides to protect supporters from the weather and then we could free up all the Holker St End for standing. When the funds became available you could replace these temporary structures with something more permanent. As for planning objections, there has been a football club on that site for over 100 years so I can,t see any objections to a bigger stand being supported.Didn,t the old main stand used to be bigger than the current one.?

I'm sure that there will be news soon as the board will be fully aware that the extra seats need to be in place by the beginning of next season. Personally I think it may be 250 seats in the crossbar end that will also incorporate the disabled viewing section then 600 seats on the flattened western terrace ie extend the main stand. That will give us the 850 we require to reach 2000 seats without infringing the current capacity. .Jonty wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 7:10 pm We are yet to see / hear from the club about what is planned to address this. The main stand extended to full length of the pitch would be the fans choice and the number 1 option, and has been talked about since it was built, but if that was planned, they would surely be under there now sorting out the change rooms, planning use of the space under there now. So far as we know that plan was pulled and they have upgraded the facilities in the Crossbar, which surely at some point has to go, its an absolute carbuncle and effectively we only have a three sided ground, that is about 1100 seats short of league requirements. If the club wants to generate some feel good factor, ground development is always one way to do that, so hopefully some news soon.

If, as some people have posted, the club are not paying local businesses then I would assume money is very tight and any development would be the cheapest possible.

Oh well that has instantly squashed any feel good factor.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 7:35 pm If, as some people have posted, the club are not paying local businesses then I would assume money is very tight and any development would be the cheapest possible.

Ground-share at Morecambe while the BAe stadium is built as part of the Salthouse Sands development?

Aye, and we’ll use the cycle lane on the bay barrage to get there
Could we stick a Gillingham/Old Trafford-style temporary stand at the Steelworks end? Go nice and high to meet the required number of seats, even if loads of them would be ‘restricted view’?

Adding seats to the HS end wouldn't attract grant money and nowadays you only get one go at the big grab and as has been said i would imagine the loss of standing numbers would then take the total capacity below that which would be needed so i don't see that as a goerJonty wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 10:45 pm At some point in the near future the club will need to address the requirement to increase seating capacity to 2000. I have no doubt some optioneering has already been done and reckon it will come down to a decision against one of these three-
1- To reconfigure the entire HS stand to seats
2- Develop either side of the main stand
3- Add seats in front of the Crossbar stand.
Think it will be option 1. Makes most sense and probably be most cost effective and do-able without major construction. Wont be popular with many though. Thoughts?
You don't actually have to have done the work within the timescales so long as you can show that plans are in place and you are well underway with a scheme and the FL would now rather give clubs time to do a proper scheme than the ridiculous situation like where Accrington had to bolt seats on the home end just to get to the numbers needed.
My money is they go for a scheme to build a new stand in stages as they did at Watford. Stage 1 new third built to the steelworks end of the existing structure built at the end of a season and thru the summer giving the existing stand and the new third available for use. Stage 2 new third built during the season at the HS end of the existing structure facilitated by giving the away fans more of the HS end. Stage three once stage two is completed close the existing stand and demolish it and then construct the final third in the middle [knowing that if it's not ready for the start of the season you have the two new thirds available ] built as three identical modules which when once linked together would join seamlessly and it would look just like a stand built in a more conventional way [ if you look at that stand at Watford you'd never know how it was done and there they had the added problem of it being built into the side of a hill with virtually no access.
And as was mentioned above may be the decision on the dressing rooms was driven by the fact that the best if not the cheapest option would be a complete redevelopment of that side meaning that money spent on new dressing rooms there would be a very short-sighted decision and a complete waste of money.
By biting the bullet and going for the big build with facilities and dressing rooms underneath it would then allow for the demolition of the existing structure and redevelopment of the Steelworks end at some point in the future.
Re: The 1000 extra seats required.
In an ideal world I’d have a one way street down Wilkie road, and build a new stand right down that side in place of the v*****n built stand and have the changing rooms and club shop in there. Eventually get a decent stand in place of the crossbar for us to win league 1.
Re: The 1000 extra seats required.
If I remember rightly Papa Casson put a new boiler in the X-Bar, so we can't go knocking that down! He'll have no legacy if that went.
Re: The 1000 extra seats required.
No floodlights, no relaid pitch and 1 million a year subsidy oh yes don't forget NO CLUB to put a boiler in. What do you contribute?
Just say no to VAR

You’ve said in earlier posts that your new to supporting the club, I suggest you do some research before spouting. Casson, saved this club, and it’s through his investment and appointments, that we have reached the football league.
