Its alright we can have different views on it can’t we? I’m trying to generate some debate on it. Maybe the urge for standing has waned for me over time but I would never say someone is a better or more passionate supporter based upon whether they choose to stand or sit though. Im sure many of the older fans will have at some point stood on packed surging terraces and nothing better than a whole end singing together- be it the Kop, Stretford end’ Holker End- most all seated now and not like it was anyway- those days are gone but its great that that some Prem clubs are now trialling out rail seating- giving fans choice.

I agree but the EFL need to move with the times and I`m sure after the present trials (premier league) that the government will let certain sections of grounds consist of rail seating!

Whichever way you look at it, it’s going to be an expensive way to tick a box. We don’t ‘need’ another thousand seats, we don’t sell all the ones we currently have.

The rules should ensure the safe handling of whatever capacity a ground has, not imposing arbitrary standards.

Exactly it`s an absolute stupid rule , it should have been based on previous attendances ,take up of seats etc because we know we`ll probably never fill 2,000 seats (wish we did !)

Not exactly the most reliable of sources, but this is from today evening mail. Didn’t Salford council help them build their stadium? I don’t get why our council can’t be more helpful with funding our club as well.

PROPOSALS are due to be drawn up to bring a new sports and leisure stadium to Barrow.

Barrow Council wants to bring a multi-use stadium to provide a 'high profile attraction' in the town.

It would be used for sports, leisure and events.

A tendering process has been opened to find a contractor to compile a business case for the new stadium.

Funding to draw up the business case, which could cost up to £9,000, has come from the Government's £25 million Towns Fund cash.

The business case could be used to attract future investment in order to build the stadium.

The contract tender said: "Barrow was successfully awarded £25m through the Towns Fund which is part of the Government's plan to level up the UK economy.

"This is an ambitious programme which will transform Barrow and includes plans for a new University Campus and provision for 600 new homes.

"One of the other successful projects which makes up Brilliant Barrows Town Deal programme is a place development project. This aims to enhance Barrow's cultural and leisure offer and improve the perception and image of Barrow.

"As part of the Place Development Project, Barrow BC wish to develop a Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC) against the HM Treasury Green Book model which would identify the viability and sustainability of a mixed use stadium in Barrow.

"The intent is that the Stadium would provide a high profile attraction in Barrow which could be used for a range of activities including sports, leisure and events."

The business case is due to be completed before November.

The stadium plans form part of the the Place project, making up of seven initiatives of #BrilliantBarrow - Barrow's Town Deal.

Barrow Council is promising that the projects will secure a 'bright and transformative' for the area.

The set of seven schemes encompasses housing renewal, cycling infrastructure and a university campus.

I think I read the same story in 2007.

If they are putting together a business case, that will surely need to have input from Barrow AFC and The Rugby. If they don’t, then who exactly do they envisage as being tenants of this stadium.

Sounds brilliant but don't want a gateshead type stadium plus a decent stadium would cost millions like to see the plans though ( if it ever got off the ground).

If you want a comparison- Yorks community stadium is all out there- the business case, the main obstacle is who foots the bill for a venture that doesn't bring in a massive return on investment, unless of course there are tenants and then you are into the territory of whether that is what we would want to do, assessed against the future and realistic chance to sustain at HS. The business case will pick all that out. If theres no appetite for it by both us and / or and the rugby then I cant see it getting anywhere.
