But are they any good ? Plus we signed a full back from Alty last season who many (not me) consider short of L2 standard. Not wanting to rain on anyones parade but took some notice of Richard Drydens' post-match interview at the weekend. He mentioned the return of Beadling and Sea, Nthle returning to contact training this week plus Devitt had been joining in 5-a-sides. No mention of Williams who can't be far off. Given these five have contributed almost nothing to the season so far their return would be akin to five new signings. Just saying.

I can understand that, to a degree…but, I’m not sure how Devitt will force his way into the side with better players in front of him. Nthle is just going to struggle to string together half a dozen games going on his recent history. Sea…not bad but with no other decent striker to play with him, is he the answer? Beadling was ok last season when he got going but again - where will he fit in? Williams, a good player but very similar to Gordon and James.
I don’t think them five returning are going to have the impact that one good striker would have on the team.

I agree . However whilst the above isn't entirely my opinion I am just bracing people to an argument that may be thrown out if we fail to get any of our targets. On that subject people need to realise that our targets are probably the same as many other teams. The window has more gazumping than the countrys' dodgiest estate agent. Who gets who is not necessary down to failure but clever agents,timing and many other imponderables. Have faith.

MARK BECK has admitted that he is yet to have any conversations about extending his loan deal at York City which ends next month.

Beck arrived at York in the summer on loan from Sky Bet League Two side Harrogate Town, with the spell reaching its conclusion in January.

The striker has played 20 times for City so far this season - 15 of those being starts - scoring five goals, his most recent ensuring a 1-0 FA Trophy win over Blyth Spartans.

Despite his return to Harrogate being just weeks away, he says he is still unsure over where his immediate future lies.


“I’ve not actually spoken to anyone about it,” said Beck. “I’m just happy playing football at the minute and scoring goals.

“Obviously something needs sorting around that so hopefully we'll have some talks over the next few weeks and see what happens.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and it’s a good place to be.”


For now Beck’s focus between now and January is starting and scoring in as many games as he can as York look to put their Vanarama National League North promotion bid back on track having slumped to 13th in the table.

“I just want to try and stay in the team and keep scoring goals,” added Beck.

“And obviously, team-wise, we want to try and get back up to where we should be in the league.

“Hopefully we can go on a little cup run (in the FA Trophy) as well and we’ll see how far we can get in that as well.”

City’s newly-appointed interim manager John Askey started Beck in a front three with Clayton Donaldson and Kurt Willoughby against Blyth, a combination that the target man enjoys being a part of.

“They’re both obviously very good players and very direct,” said the 27-year-old.

“I know that they’re going to be either putting it in for me or in and around me.

“It’s great to have a couple of good players alongside me as well.

"Obviously we’ve got Mackenzie (Heaney) in there as well and Gilly (Jason Gilchrist), so we’ve got some good options at the top of the pitch.”

I've no problem with that if they're good enough fir league 2 and can score some goals. If we do get some youngsters in its especially important to give them lots of encouragement particularly if we are their first experience of league football.

So it seems our survival in League 2 is going to mainly depend on some untried youngsters at this level scoring the goals we desperately need to actually start winning some games. Oh i know some have come good in the past, but some have also failed, but never in league 2 with relegation a real threat. I just hope for the best if this proves to be the case.

I agree BUT would we then later on get "well we couldn't get our targets because.................! " ?

Maybe. But there’s always reasons why you can’t get your targets. We can’t force clubs to release players or get them to choose us. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t.

Not worth fretting about until it’s offical either way.
