The over-whelming consensus on this forum was that Rooney's departure in 2020 (plus Quigley's in 2021) was the main reason for the downturn in our performances. Now that he's back, does that favour a reversal of our fortunes? He scored 20 goals for Stockport, plus numerous assists, so he can still produce. Understand Stockport has recouped most of the fee, £75 - £150K? Pleasantly surprised that the Board been able to come up with that sort of cash and more importantly has been willing to spend it.

Time for a conspiracy theory Nige. Platt signs pre-contract terms with County. Barrow go to County and say give us Rooney for a reasonable fee and we won’t invoke the option on Platt come the end of the season.

I should add that this is Stockport County I’m referring to not Weatherfield County as the idea does have a touch of Corrie about it. But hey ho I quite like it.

Just watched the goals he scored for County last season. Brilliant. We haven't had a player in our side who can hit a ball as sweetly as that since ermmm....Rooney.

We shall see which JR turns up I guess. Had a tendency to go missing when things were tough, inspired or another pay day .. Time will tell.

Mark Cooper has swooped to complete his first signing as Barrow boss with exciting young striker Offrande Zanzala putting pen to paper on a deal with The Bluebirds.

The highly rated 24-year-old front man has agreed a two-year contract to move to The Progression Solicitors Stadium following a successful spell with Cumbrian rivals, Carlisle United.

Zanzala became a big favourite with Carlisle fans during his short stay at Brunton Park in the second half of 2020/21, where he scored five goals in 22 appearances and brought a hard-working and combative edge to their front line.

The Cumbrians offered fresh terms to the Congo-born forward at the end of last season, but he has now agreed to become the first new signing of the Cooper era at Barrow.

From the age of 12, Zanzala was nurtured in the Derby County Academy where he progressed through to their Under-21 side and also gained senior experience with loan spells at Stevenage, Chester and Accrington Stanley.

In 2018, Zanzala made his move to Accrington permanent and he went on to strike eight times at League One level during his second season at the club before making a switch to Crewe Alexandra.

Zanzala’s arrival marks a big breakthrough for new Bluebirds boss Mark Cooper who has been working hard behind the scenes to strengthen his squad ahead of the new League Two campaign.

Challinor didn't want Rooney and he became a bench-warmer. Sounds like a deal was done which suited both sides. Not sure that Cooper chased after him. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the other way round!

It remains to be seen which club has got the better deal.

even a half firing Rooney is better than what we have! he'll be ok he's finally got a chance to prove he can cut it at this level hopefully he'll smash it can't wait till Saturday should be some atmosphere especially with it being tranmere I'm sure they'll give him a warm welcome!
