Radio Cumbrias coverage is awful, unlike a lot of other teams at our level its not the selection or coverage of games, which is good, its not even the bias with station selection etc but more owing to its amateur setup and clear lack of overall professional media direction/production.Hadrian wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 10:07 pmThat was Chris Lumsden.liverpoolann wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:47 pm Was that the bloke who talked to Adam about our result straight after he had been eulogising Carlisle draw.?Thought he was patronising when he started speaking could almost see him grinning .Was so annoyed I turned radio off ,sorry Adam.
If Newton is in charge of that crap from Saturday he needs to give his head a wobble, license fees spent on producing content which amounts to nothing more than anecdotes from Lumsden and Phillips from their all exspenses covered overnighters or garbage about their sunday league exploits regularly discussing what some bloke in their 5 a side would make of the situation, feels very much a jobs for the boys set up and definitely a station which has only had 1 club to focus on for the last 50 years and seems to be struggling to accept there's another side in the same league who for 80% of the season sat above them. He could do with having a listen back without the pathetic 3 lads down the pub philosophy.
I think Adam and his contributors do a great job and hope he doesnt take the criticism of RC personally, for me its the overall broadcast, pre and post match! Its not about the number of calls or texts giving equal coverage, when the broadcast is produced as it is now there's no way we'd increase our air time, even if there were 50 callers on hold and the text system had crashed. The coverage on Saturday is why so many people rightfully can't stand to listen to the one sided drivel, it was patronising, condensing and sniping. The post match contributions from fans had no bearing on which team remained the focus, quite bizarre the way the post match spun a draw like some kind of league title!
It's little wonder local radio is under real threat come budget cuts, phillips could do with another spell on the sidelines, horrible toad of a man.
Re: Barrow v Portvale match thread
Ever since Banks has signed that new contract he's gone off the boil. Beadling was good yesterday did all the dirty work and running. I liked we played with a 4 at the back but missed Brough massively, Glennon not up to it from a defensive perspective. I think if white and beadling lined up in the two and Rooney played closer to Holloway that would work better Banks needs to be dropped and I hope that will get a reaction out of him. Gordon is without doubt one of the worst centre forwards we've had the sooner we can get rid of him the better never going to score any goals but neither is Luke James or Holloway.Jonty wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 5:47 pm Banks had a bit of a stinker yesterday but he wasn't the only one- Glennon was getting turned inside out and Rooney was struggling to make an impact and Holloway, I don't think he faced goal all game. We can get away with one, perhaps 2 off form, but 3 or 4, its too much against a top side. Positively- I thought Matt Platt was immense yesterday- he won every single header he contested. He had a great game and Josh Kay, Beadling and Gotts all had good games.
Re: Barrow v Portvale match thread
How does a thread about the Port Vale match become a whinge about Carlisle United? If we were covered by BBC Radio Lancashire, we'd be lucky, as a L2 team to get a ten minute match report. At least that was what Stanley and Morecambe used to get and it's not much better for them now.

I agree with you about the thread going off course but that happens with so many threads on here, and it's perfectly natural. The point about Radio Lancashire has also been made before, and has some merit.Pastor wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:02 am How does a thread about the Port Vale match become a whinge about Carlisle United? I think what hacks off most people is the one-sidedness when Philips is in charge. To be fair when Paul Newton took over the reins when Philips was 'away' there was far more balance and Barrow got its fair share.
Adam does a brilliant job and I know he struggles to get people to ring after games, which must be frustrating for him, but doubt they would have got a look in on Saturday as Philips was back too his 'look at me' worst, with the majority of the time after the game spent having a 'love-in' with Lummy, talking about Carlisle, who are safe, whereas Barrow are in a relegation struggle which merits more coverage than it got on Saturday.
Holker Old Boys are on the verge of promotion but where was their coverage? Oh I forgot - they're based in Barrow aren't they? Next week they are in the first of their play-off games and it's at home. Be interesting to see if they get a mention.
The main point though has been said above but worth repeating that Barrow and Carlisle are in the same league but their respective coverage on Saturday did not reflect that.

Well if ya dont like it just turn away from it.Pastor wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:02 am How does a thread about the Port Vale match become a whinge about Carlisle United? I realise that the coverage we get is good compared to what we would get if we relied on radio Lancashire but-what Ghostof72 says is, so so accurate in his analysis of the coverage content.

Lancashire Radio covers Fleetwood Blackburn,Blackpool, PNE and many others.Pastor wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:02 am How does a thread about the Port Vale match become a whinge about Carlisle United? Cumbria has only two and therefore if they are doing
articles on teams it should be even.
The content was not derived from Carlisle supporters phoning in but a editorial decision
It's as though they are wishing us down so they can say we will get less coverage.
Adam does a brilliant job but cannot control Radio Carlisle editorial content.

It's a public funded station and should reflect thatmall wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 10:09 amWell if ya dont like it just turn away from it.Pastor wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:02 am How does a thread about the Port Vale match become a whinge about Carlisle United? I am sure some of them reporter's at Radio Carlisle would be suitable to RT Russia

It was Phillips-not Lumsden.Ghostof72 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 11:09 pmRadio Cumbrias coverage is awful, unlike a lot of other teams at our level its not the selection or coverage of games, which is good, its not even the bias with station selection etc but more owing to its amateur setup and clear lack of overall professional media direction/production.

It's all to evident that Phillips is a person who has attached himself to the the radio cumbria producer in terms of the importance of Carlisle United and its representation of Cumbria. Whether or not this hurts some people, and I dont give a damn if it does or doesn't, it has to be pointed out that Barrow AFC, once they entered the football league, were seen as stepping on Carlisle Uniteds toes by some people or person behind Radio Cumbrias sports coverage output. Phillips for example says he has a soft spot for Barrow, maybe he has! but, its all to evident that his behind the scenes producer (Steve somef****r) who is a dyed in the wool Carlisle supporter is pulling Phillips's strings because he knows that Phillips will enthusiastically espouse Carlisle bias wheras, when Paul Newton was mainly on his own, he tended to be more diplomatic although his mask slipped a little bit when they did the programme from Holker Street after the Carlisle match when he was happy to read out deregatory coments from Carlisle fans about the state of Barrows ground in a patronising, condecending and sniping way-without any mention from Newton of Barrow being a non-league club for the best part of fifty years.

Not sure but I think Paul Newton is Sports Producer, and therefore in overall charge of the station's sports output.

Waste of time and pointless-nothings gonna change. The bias will always be there, Carlisle is where they all live.MisterPleasant wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 11:38 am Adam29 invited anyone who has complaints to send an email to paul.newton@bbc.co.uk
