Once spoke to someone who recruited for VSEL (as it was then) and he said it was difficult getting quality staff to come here because of the perceived 'Mike Harding' view, but he said that once they were here they settled here for life!

Totally off topic I know but where did you go? I did Ingleton, Hawes and Richmond last Saturday and couldn’t believe how quiet the roads were.

I was in Richmond last saturday on my motorbike. I went Richmond, Reeth, Askrigg, Hawes, Buttertubs, Tan Hill and back to Reeth and Richmond. I agree, the roads were fairly quiet. Probably worse on Sunday!

Totally off topic I know but where did you go? I did Ingleton, Hawes and Richmond last Saturday and couldn’t believe how quiet the roads were.

I was in Richmond last saturday on my motorbike. I went Richmond, Reeth, Askrigg, Hawes, Buttertubs, Tan Hill and back to Reeth and Richmond. I agree, the roads were fairly quiet. Probably worse on Sunday!

I went the other way Hawes, Aysgarth, Wensley, Leyburn, Catterick and then up to Richmond. Not on motorbike. Going your route next week Jim.

To be fair Evatt went to a "Premiership" club (in their imaginations) and Adams went to Bradford (they of the 15,000 home crowds). Managers are rarely emotionally invested in clubs. They go where there is the most money and potential. If Wild got Halifax promoted I honestly don't imagine he'd see Barrow as more of a lure than staying at the Shay. Not saying Wild is a bad choice, just saying for it to happen means they need to fail - and we need to wait around for that to happen (which if it doesn't means we're back at square 1).

May have wanted Quigley as well, but it was definitely Evatt that agreed to join them. Their chairman was really hacked off when he didn't!

Evatt agreed by way of a handshake to join Fylde according to the chairman and Evatt then denied he had. It is like a vipers nest.

Unfortunately more people from different regions are realizing what a wonderful area we live in. To many narrow minded folk focus on the town center and the Eggo . I could walk 15 mins in any direction and be in countryside or on a beach. We’re lucky to live in an area of natural beauty, boils my pee when Barrovians slag the town off but it says more about them they should get off their arses and look around. £160k on a nice semi in Barrow or Dalton is amazing value and quality of life for a family beats any city if you want relative low crime rates etc.

Barrovians and Daltonians have always been the same for as long as I can remember. I remember an old timer in Barrow steelworks in the early seventies saying the same thing to me back then and he was correct.

Walk 15 mins in any direction and be in countryside or on a beach? Maybe? However, a short walk from one beach is a Nuclear Arms Factory which isn't very appealing to many Traveling distance is another factor. We're nestled at the end of a cul de sac. Having to drive down the A590 instead of being able to come straight off the motorway probably puts many players/mangers off coming here - even though that scenic route is spectacular.

I agree with you about local people slagging the town off. I've lived in many different areas of England and abroad due to work and study commitments and there are far worse places than Barrow-in-Furness.

Paul Casson announced -at The Forum presentation - shortly before his take over, that he wanted at least 5/6 players living in the town. A good idea if that could be achieved.
