You did well Christine. 🙂

No just an older brother who doesn't play sport.

A very good player for Barrow and sad to see him go. Hope he does well at Bradford and progresses even further.

Thanks for everything Platty, convinced you will be successful at Bradford and got to be good move career wise for you,as I understand it there was a disagreement with cooper over playing style and cooper spat the dummy out and things turned a bit sour, after cooper left under brown one of our best players so not only have we lost our best defender but we allowed his contract to run out and not game n financially from it either poor from cooper or the board, the fact that he has gone to the best supported team in the league tells you how well he was thought of in the league ,any new manager coming in is going to have to look at the defence,Brown prone to giving silly free kicks and errors,Jones week and a rubbish header of the ball ,why o why he was offered a contract I don’t know,Ellis slow,Canavan not as commanding in the air and not the fastest same can be said about Grayson,Brough probably better at wing back

He wanted to leave so was never going to sign a new contract

I have no doubts Cooper and the board made attempts to get Matt to sign a new contract but his mind was made up. His dip on form and Cooper dropping him was IMO a consequence of this. Came back well in final few games and good luck to him.

How do you make a player sign a new contract? if his mind was made up then it would be a bit daft of him to agree to another 12/24 months.

Matt was a very important part of the promotion winning team and has helped keep us in L2, nobody could begrudge him a move to a club like Bradford. He deserves to go with everyones best wishes.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

If the club had been pro active and got a contract extension at the start of last season when all was good at least if he had gone to Bradford then we would have got some money for him, there was no way he would have signed mid season a new contract

What makes you think he would have signed a contract extension then?

Tbh I’m not sure Bradford would have paid for him; he was a fantastic free signing for someone but I’m not sure clubs would have been paying for him, certainly not at the value we would have rated him

He would not have signed even then IMO. To be fair the club got a fee for both Rooney and Quigley when they went to Stockport. plus a handsome compensation package when Evatt went to Bolton. Joel Dixon did the same as Platt before going to Bolton. Players in the lower leagues have to maximise themselves financially and I suspect can command a nice signing on fee when no fee between the clubs is involved.
