I was at the Bradford game and I have to say I did wonder at the number of away fans crammed into that corner (600+)? I was a Valley Parade last season and my experience as an away supporter was so very much better. I think most would agree that the facilities for away supporters do need upgrading (as do the facilities for our own supporters). Its one aspect of our ground that particularly generates a lot of negative comment

Some of Nebulus' points however are pretty concerning if true. I realise that we are currently working with an EFL dictat to improve the away facilities and that this is subject to a time limitation. So if we are within that time limitation then no rules are actually being broken. Issues with regard to Health and Safety as regards crowd control however would I think come under the remit of the HSE. In my experience the HSE rarely identify "unsatisfactory" situations without stipulating a remediation plan to be implemented asap. Has that happened in our case?

What seems to be suggested here is that the BoD (with the Chairman mentioned specifically) being aware of the problem has thus far failed to either act on advices given or to accelerate the upgrading of facilities and for predominantly financial reasons. Further, that the previous set of stewards were in effect removed because they themselves were too vocal about their concerns. Even the implication that their reputation as a group might have been deliberately tarnished as a result.

We seem to have come along way from the issue of how you reward a group of part time, locally based stewards. Indeed the picture this paints of the Chairman/BoD is not a very nice one - were it to be true and runs counter to the current perception of the general level of harmony at the club.

So I'm confused. Truth or illusion?
I am sure the safety advisory group(SAG) of Cumbria County Council are fully aware what's going on. After all it was them that reduced the away capacity to 540 towards the end of last season and have now allowed it to go back to 640.
Reference to your comment concerning away capacity reduced to 540 towards the end of last season season, checking away attendances Carlisle was 612, Port Vale was 575 and Northampton was 575. So even if they was on a reduced away capacity, they have obviously ignored it. So maybe the stewards were right in what they said.

+1

You can't sell more than the SAG says, which btw includes our Head Steward and our Police Liaison Officer before we start throwing accusations around. The SAG initially was fine (I know, I was there) with the 662 but when inspected (they send someone to the game) the use of the corner to stand on was felt to be unsafe as there aren't sufficient barriers and we struggling to stop folk standing there. Therefore, capacity was reduced. The wall was brought level with the Main Stand and the offending area was blocked off. Then the SAG recalculated the capacity to what it is now.

That's the facts.

Thanks for clarifying Steve. The facts are always better than the fiction 😉

So did the stewards walk out over an "overfilled" away end that was actually in line with the SAG approved capacity? :?

I doubt it tbh. I wasn't there. I am going to take a wild guess and say only one person on this thread was. And that person is/was a steward so with the best will in the world, it's a point of view, rather than facts. The club can't operate like that, refuting every bit of opinion or not and neither they should.

This thread fills the vacuum with speculation and folk with part of the picture (and their own prejudices and opinions) sticking their two bob in. As I have just done with this reply :D

The away end is a mess we all know that. It’s embarrassing last season fans trading blows at the wall prior to KO and no stewards or police in sight.
Not sure how anyone can state what’s fact or opinion baffled me. last seasons burgergate saga showed there is a tendency within the club to twist things i.e the academy farce to try and deflect shortcomings and blame others. I think we all agree just say it as it is instead of smoke and mirrors.

The club can’t win with some they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t. Surely there has never been a better time to be a fan of Barrow AFC. Let those charged with running the club get on with it. Not everyone will agree with decisions made but even Jesus Christ couldn’t please everyone 😉

Walsall could have had more if they wanted them, that’s all they sold

The club can have a consistent approach and comment appropriately to any points raised. We seem to always be on the defensive and the excuses at times have been a joke. Just say it how it is instead of back pedaling and twisting the truth to suit.

Who cares about stewards? Its what happens on the pitch that counts. Seems like there’s some kind of smear campaign against the club every week. Some subjects such as the academy were raised at the qna and every answer was clearly given, no excuses just rational thinking.

Nonsense what it seems like is folk questioning the actions of the club no smearing. If you think the academy debacle was fair to those involved then I’m afraid you need to have a word with yourself.

Did you go to the qna?
