Not defending the ref as I thought like everyone else that he was a clueless disgrace, but is it not the 4th official that adds on the extra time?Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 9:22 pm
The refs behaviour in the second half in particular was a little bizarre. He chose not to deal with Orients game management by penalising them ~ which might have been useful; but chose to add 8 minutes on at the end which was not.

Re: Barrow v Orient match thread
He wasn't subbed off at that point, just ordered to the side to continue treatment (Kay pushed him off the pitch at this point). Came back on and was then subbed off - they didn't have 12 on. Do you not think our bench would go a bit more mental if there were 12 on???Bingley Blue wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 10:09 pmI was watching the game. And before he got anywhere near their fans he walked along the popular side and went back on the pitch. The referee ushered him off when the ball went out fr a throw. This was before he even got to the Holker street end. Several people around me commented on it. I checked the pitch and there had been 12 on. Hope that clarifies it.blue nige wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 10:05 pm
When his number came up he started to walk across the pitch, the referee then ( we all heard it) said no go off there pointed and ushered him off he then walked off round the pitch past the Holker Street end and then past there supporters who applauded him ,what were you watching?
The officials were shit, but also missed a blatant handball by Canavan that should've been a penalty in the second half.

Might be wrong but I thought the ref calculates stoppage time and then communicates this to the 4th officialwalneyroad wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 10:45 pmNot defending the ref as I thought like everyone else that he was a clueless disgrace, but is it not the 4th official that adds on the extra time?Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 9:22 pm

Disappointing today result Wise
But for me today was more than about the result.
There was 4,371 Barrow supporters in that ground this afternoon
That’s the biggest official home attendance since we returned to the league.
I know people on here will have been in bigger crowds, I know myself (watching since 1997) that we’ve been in “unofficial” crowds that were bigger.
But for me today was amazing - we belong in this league and are now showing supporter figures that prove it. The club is growing and long May it continue

Well said and totally agree. Couldn’t believe the number of people trying to get into HS today. Such a contrast with a few years ago.Adam29 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 12:17 am Disappointing today result Wise

The Orient forum is also worth a read. Not as busy as I would expect, given that they didn’t bring as many fans as anticipated (so they would be watching it on iFollow and it is easier to post while you are doing that, as I was). It is generally a fair reflection of the match. As I said after the match, no shame losing to the top team, especially when it could have been so different if we had put one away early on when we were so dominant. If you ignore the Sutton result, for obvious reasons, we have lost to the 2 best teams in the league (other than us!). Let’s hope everyone enjoyed a tight game and the atmosphere and will come back despite the result.

Re: Barrow v Orient match thread
Having watched the highlights, and having seen the match live, I think Warren could have been more effective to prevent both LO goals. He does some things ok, but I feel edgy when he comes under pressure. He is out of position a bit too often as well. Hopefully the poorer parts of his game can be coached out. Still only young.boyliegladbach wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 11:40 pmWarren the weakest player in our team had an attempt to make a tackle and another to clear it before the goal.

Re: Barrow v Orient match thread
I really do wish people like you would get your facts right before you make such stupid remarks, Kay was dismissed by a referee who at best is competent to officiate in an under 12s junior football match for an alleged remark that not only he denies but the Orient player also, Pete Wild quite rightly will be appealing the ridiculous decision, Kay probably had his best game in a barrow shirt in the first half he was awesome, and I would also rather have someone playing for our club with his passion & commitment than someone who just turns up & gives up when the going gets tough, so if anyone's an idiot I would suggest it's probably you.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 4:49 pm Josh Kay: Once an idiot, always an idiot. Re: Barrow v Orient match thread
Firstly, I must say that the first 30 minutes football from Barrow was great to watch. A couple of Orient defenders were looking shell-shocked and wishing they weren't here. They found it difficult to play out from the back as we pressed them relentlessly. However, once they got a grip on the game, they did the same to us and we struggled to string passes together in the second half.
Conceded two poor goals. Warren was left for dead by the winger for the first and, for the second, Farman was beaten by a shot from far out that wasn't even well hit. I was disappointed that it was all huff and puff in the second half, with not enough movement. Also, I thought there was a lot of long ball and 'hit and hope'. We never seriously looked like scoring. I have not heard Wild's post match with Adam, but I would be interested to know whether he was disappointed with our overall performance.
The Kay sending off was a mystery to me, but the Orient players had been roughing him up for a while and there had been a wrestling match a few minutes earlier on the Pop side in our half. I see that Flashscore gives it as a second yellow, so hopfully only one game ban.

Re: Barrow v Orient match thread
PW said to Adam that there wasn’t much in the game, and the difference was that they took their chances, and we didn’t. A very similar interview available on the club website. I thought it was one of Pete’s poorer interviews, but I’m still in awe of him, and what he is doing. I’m still perplexed by what happened after half an hour, and why we seemed to change from excellent to second best. I couldn’t see any tactical changes from LO.
Re: Barrow v Orient match thread
Never a penalty in a million years. If the rule is about arms being in an unnatural position then Canavan's certainly weren't. Hit his arm yes but they were by his side and it was blasted at him from a few yards away.
I didn't think the referee was as shit as some seem to. He let them get away with far far too much slowing the game down and that is a big mark against him, but on the flip side he made it obvious early on that he wasn't going to fall for them (particularly their defenders) going down at the softest of touches when under pressure and allowed the game to flow when that happened way more than most would. One in particular first half when Beckles did it and got nothing springs to mind and Pratley tried it a couple of times first half too ending with him getting booked. Aside from the failure to clamp down on Orient's slowing the game down tactics, I can't think of many actual decisions that he got wrong.
Referee wasn't fantastic by any stretch but I've seen far worse.
Re: Barrow v Orient match thread
Agree with comments re Kay. Was class going forward. Fast direct and causing no end of problems.
Not the most convenient thing him getting sent off and virtually killed off any chance of a comeback. Although from the sounds of it the officials were completely incompetent yet again
