Paul Hornby in a radio interview just after the start of the season said what the plan was. Seats in the crossbar end and the rest to meet EFL requirement of 2000 total seats in the away end. Work will be completed in the close season summer 2023 costing £850k fifty percent of cost made up of a grant the rest by the club
Whilst that's what he said he also said that in the meantime some temporary seats were going into the away end corner. I'm sure it will all be in hand for the close season, I think the town has showed it back a football league side .. as I've said before any sniff at success and the fan base would outgrow the support.
Are fanbase and support not one of the same?

Perhaps not for now but moving forward, I'd love to know how say over 5 years how we intend to finance and upgrade our ground because it's obviously not league standard and if we want to progress it'll have to be upgraded, away fans quite rightly criticise the ground, so CAN we get a response at the next fans meeting whenever that'll be!

Demotion, Gaffer & Player contracts on L2 wages, Would be madness to chuck all that away never mind a fan base in uproar, Especially when these upgrades are half price (EFL Grants) So that should tell everyone that this WILL be happening, Otherwise may as well shut up shop.
Spot on Mike. People just need to be patient it’s all in hand all EFL requirements will be met by the beginning of season 23/24
Maybe so but surely they can share a plan of this with the supporters. Even just an artists impression of what it’s going to look like would be nice and give us all something to look forward to. Not too much to ask I don’t think!

I can,t believe some people on here.We have already been told that the seats will be in place for the start of the next season.
The reason for the delay is that the original contractor suddenly decided it was going to cost more for them to put the stand and seats in and revised their original quote massively increasing the price for the job.
Because the club has only a set amount of money to play with they refused to go ahead at the increased quote.
It is called keeping the club on a sound financial footing and not getting into massive debt, which quite a few other EFLclubs are already.
Their are a lot of people who give their services for free to help improve our ground,so instead of moaning about the lack of progress regarding the seating how about offering your time to help make the ground a better place to visit.
Because of all the improvements that have already been made the ground is a much more pleasant experience from the one I remember in the 1960s so for that I am grateful even if some people aren't and who will always moan about the pace of change.

Because he was a very cheap/attractive option who to get the opportunity probably all but signed away his rights to anything above the absolute minimum compo should he get sacked meaning to the club giving him a 5 year contract carries very little risk for them and on the converse side he probably agreed to the club maximizing what they could get in compensation for him should a big club come calling
Pete wild wasn't a cheap option, he was a highly sought after manager with a year left on his contract at Halifax and lots of other clubs monitoring him. We paid compensation to get him in.

The board did fantastically, I am sure the club will have the efl requirements in hand, would just be nice to know what the plan is. (The money you would lose dropping out of the league is probably more than the cost of the extra seats)
Not saying they didn't pay compensation to get him with a year left on his contract it would have been very strange if they hadn't.

Not sure how you work out that he was sought after other than rumors about a return to Oldham I don't think there was much of substance from anywhere else.

Common knowledge that he was in the bottom 5 earners in the conference. And if you think Hornby will have paid any more than the absolute minimum to get him especially given the fact that the assistant he brought in wasn't wet behind the ears you're wrong, same as you are if you think he isn't in the bottom 5 earners again this time in League two.

There's a history of managers from outside the EFL taking jobs in the league for less than they were earning outside it, But given what he was on at Halifax that won't be the case here but i.d bet its a lot nearer that than Mark Hughes reputed 10k a week at Bradford.

Well as he mentions that they expect to get 450k in grant money which has to involve the building of a new permanent covered seated stand somewhere because that's the only thing that attracts the grant money. And just reading up on it it looks to me that the whole of the money [ inc the club's contribution has to be spent on projects that meet the criteria] In other words you couldn't spend the grant money on a permanent structure and the club's money on a temporary stand. To get the grant the whole lot would need to be spent on a new permanent covered seated stand.

So with that in mind, it can only be either a new stand at the steelworks end or a permanent extension to the main stand between that and the steelworks and then a temporary stand on hire at the other side towards the Holker end to get to the required number of seats after removing the temporary ones from the away section of the Holker end.

As I said earlier do whatever you have to that gets the away capacity up to 1500 so that the extra money [ above what you're getting now with a limit at 650 ] so that the extra cash each season would pay for whatever repayments there were on what was needed to redevelop the ground.

I don't see the logic in only spending 850k when if they spend double that they would get nearly double the grant money You only get one hit at that grant money on promotion so its madness not to max out the absolute upper limit.

We’ve been after this for years. A tangible plan.

We’ve already had grants for floodlights and other ground improvements. I’m not sure if that leaves much left in the Barrow grant pot for other things. Plus if we have to match it - yea I would like a proper main stand extension but there has to be realistic aims- say a temporary stand for two- three seasons that increases away capacity by an extra 500. There’s probably 3 -5 games that would bring 1000 away fans so possibly could be self financing but how much would be paid back out for “hiring a stand”. The downside is it’s temporary, could be seen as short sighted and doesn’t actually fix the need to improve the stand to generate non match day income that a proper stand with function suites / conf facilities etc / could generate. Also factor in 2022 the demand for these sort of facilities has dropped in the post Covid “teams” world. I’m not sure the demand would be there anyway outside of match day so over doing it that could be an unnecessary expense. I guess it’s outcome based thinking time about what do we actually need to bring the ground up to spec and so away fans go away with positive reports of their visit.

The BOD will read this forum and after 2 seasons of relegation worries it would be Barrow AFC all over to win promotion/play-offs and then get relegated because we fail to upgrade the seating capacity, maybe Adam could get Paul Hornby on RC for an update on the plans for the ground, I know people are saying everything will be OK but supporting this Club is never easy, we all want a good stress free pre-season.

I thought Frazer Stewart was the project manager? He’s the one who answered questions regarding ground development at the qna, end of the day we have until the start of next season to get the requirements needed, not like we’re selling out every weekend and it’s an urgent need. Although touch wood, if we get near the play offs in spring, attendances could hit the limit

Got nothing to do with the crowds we are getting, if crowds were only 500 we still need 2,000 seats, don`t think the EFL will wait for the start of next season to make a decision, like said before fixtures will be out and the 23rd team in league 2 will also want to know long before the first game kicking-off.

As they said at the qna the works been deferred until next summer, from what I can remember, the EFL granted an extension due to supply issues, the points from the qna were also posted on Twitter. My point about the crowds, I mean why are some people asking for updates all the time on ground development, when we’re not getting near capacity crowds. Compared to Casson, where we were promised a lot (in terms of ground development) but little was delivered, this time we’ve got a fan zone, roof on the holker street end in a relatively short space of time.
