What a difference being in the football league makes. I think we've added ~2k to our average attendance from the non-league days. I remember people saying we had a hardcore 800 who would turn up whatever was happening, I wonder how many `hardcore` fans we have now.

IIRC only Bradford have filled the away end this season. Stockport and Carlisle maybe the only other two clubs that may do that this season. Raising the away capacity won’t have a dramatic effect on raising the average attendances at Holker st IMO

I think part of the reason more clubs have not sold out their allocation this season is the state of the away corner and their previous experiences of it last season.

Hopefully more away fans will be tempted back once the work has been completed.

This is pretty much it. Once away fans have ticked Holker St off their list many will give the fixture a swerve citing the obstructed away views. …Although many complaints usually come on the back of a defeat and a long trek home. …The new seating should improve it and we can accommodate away followings of 1000+

Attendances have been great when you consider less than 800 v Luton Town for a rearranged midweeker around 10 years ago.

Aye, it’s the state of the away end, plus, the sensationalisation of how far they have to travel to get to Barra.

A lot of fans will get their Barra badge and never go back again. Can I blame them? Absolutely not.

On the subject of attendances - this coming Saturday I cant make the Salford game but I still want to give the club my money and be included in the attendance figure. So, if I buy my ticket online but cant pass through the turnstiles because I will be in the south of England,'will I still be included in the attendance figure'?.

I think this goes back to a discussion we had some time ago.

I think we agreed that the real reason that attendance is counted is primarily for tax reasons. BAFC will be taxed on the ticket sale (as income).

So if they sell 3300 tickets but only 3200 turn up the taxable gate is still 3300. The club should declare a gate of 3300 but if they choose to call it 3200 it doesn’t matter to HMRC. Same principle applies to Season Tickets though the collection of tax associated may be a little more complicated.

I believe that all tickets are scanned now and then the turnstiles themselves are more to do with security. Clearly if more tickets are scanned than the club admits to selling then there is a problem.

I’m not sure if this really answers your query Mall. Will your ticket be counted if it is not scanned? Maybe on the day maybe not. But it will be counted for tax purposes..

That was the conclusion of the last discussion. That attendance figures declared on the day five minutes before the end are really close approximations and do not represent the total number of actual paying customers.
