Nearly every game in EFL2 was postponed today. I reckon he phoned the other referees and postponed ours when he found out nearly everyone else had done the same!

Find it bizarre how one man can decide on how hard a surface is when there’s probably more qualified people in the building in this area, such as the groundsman, the physios from both clubs probably have degrees and can decide if there’s a risk of injury to the players, but one goon from Yorkshire can turn up at 12.30 and call the whole thing off, drive back in time for tea with the family, then we have to count the cost, have a replay under the lights on a Tuesday, extra lecky cost, all the wasted food today, wasted travel, staff told they don’t have to work etc, meanwhile on the colder east coast the Hartlepool game goes ahead. Wouldn’t be an issue if it was -5 all night, but the whole surrounding area (top cemetery grass etc) was not frozen come 3 o clock and neither at 5. I see Gary Neville retweeting a few [SwearFilter] off salford fans as well, about the late refs decision.

I was amazed at this decision.Surely if both managers are happy with the condition of the pitch,the referee should take their views into account before calling the game off.I played football at school in the 1960s with a leather ball and we played in all sort of conditions snow,rain,cow pats on the pitch,which you dreaded if you had to do a slide tackle.I have also seen Barrow play in all weathers,so what the hell has gone wrong has everyone gone soft.The club should sue the EFL for lost income.They appoint the referees in conjunction with the referees association so both organisations are liable.

There was a mistake made, probably, but hey ho it’s not massive in the general scheme of life, or even football. We will have a night came against the same opposition in the offing, as compensation, in the relatively near future.

All day Friday and all day yesterday the daytime temp was minus 1`, dropping to minus 3` after dark, in contrast to the Barrow area.

The game would have gone ahead 20 years ago but safeguarding of players and let's not forget the supporters in attendance will be part of a lot of games called off. I think it was wrong not to get our local ref to assess it but he has made the decision and the club will probably get nothing from it as many others were called off. Not sticking up for the ref at all but if a fan or player was hurt due to ice on the terracing or the slightest bit on the pitch he could be in trouble. I'm not condoning his decision just a different view.

Before you say it's irrelevant ask the club how much money they lost yesterday.

Don’t think it’s an irrelevance at all, but what was lost is likely to be substantially mitigated by the receipts from the replayed fixture, whenever that may be. Might be less revenue when that takes place, might be more.

The surrounding area was fine if it wasn't the police, club officials would make the judgement.
As for the referee surely there's a protocol set for him/ her (and assistants) to go through regarding the playing surface ( bet there isn't).
Glad Barrow have challenged this ,because now the EFL / Howard Webb and Co. Will have to show how these decisions are made .

I understand Nige I do mate but I just think the current stance on safeguarding is wrong. I guess I'm agreeing but just from a different angle. We all remember yellow balls (not a medical condition) and nothing went wrong I just meant because of the amount of "has someone farted on your diesel car in the last 4 hours" type adverts we live in a protective society and people are scared to do things. Certainly not condoning his decision.
