I cannot understand why you would build houses next to a football ground.In future if you wanted to put on pop concerts etc to generate money for the ground,you will get those future residents objecting about the noise.That area has always been industrial.A better use would have been as a car park for match days,because if the club manages to grow the support people will start to object about the number of cars on match days.
As a compromise if we were to build a new stadium in the future the old reservoir sight next to the existing reservoir is surely the best site as it is straight off the road into Barrow and there is plenty of room for expansion and is still roughly in the same area.
Having said all that it will probably remain a pipe dream until a rich benefactor comes along.

Older fans will remember the late Ray Wilkies dream was to build a new stadium on the old reservoir site. Regarding the proposal housing on the old Brady’s yard I can’t understand why anyone would want to live there. Right next to the bus depot in earshot of sirens from fire station and police station and a rat infested reservoir next door. I can’t see folk lining up to buy them

Now if the big-spending BAE/MoD ever wanted to celebrate and commemorate their long-standing relationship with the town that has been good for them over the years and continuing into the forseeable future, well look no further.

This happened at Craven Park and the residents objections were overruled, but the concert had to finish by 11.00 pm.

How about a joint venture with a budget hotel company to develop the Steelworks end as at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool. Income from letting rooms to contractors through the week (Sunday to Thursday) and no hotel bills to pay for players on matchday weekends and spare rooms used for corporate??

Tried that years ago, the Council said they wouldn’t grant planning permission for it.

What do you suppose the site would have cost to buy, remediate and surface appropriately to create a car park?

If it took 400 cars, say at £5 each, every home game from customers who would be happy to be in a queue up to 400 cars long to exit on to Wilkie Road into the post-match traffic, how long do you think it would take to recoup the initial outlay?

As for rich benefactors, our previous experiences suggest it would take an extremely rich benefactor, winning the Lotto wouldn't cut the mustard. (Save your money, therefore, for the Trust Lottery.)

(I don't know the answer, by the way. I did ask for the questions, along with some others, to be asked at the recent Fans' Forum. Not living locally, I was unable to attend that evening and saw no sign of the questions having been asked in the Twitter 'live' summary.)
