Wild likes his stats. Kay scored 4 league goals last season, not many but his goals were worth 8 points to our team who lacked goals from around the pitch, including two winning goals in back to back 1-0 wins v Bradford and Stockport- ie Josh is a big game match winner who scores goals others in our team simply would not take on (remember Hartlepool / Barnsley)

Its only natural for a player who has been here for a long time to want to see what else is out there. It doesn't mean he’d be any less committed when he pulls on the shirt. Plus I think he's probably one of the jokers in the dressing room, so good for the team spirit.

Who’s it benefiting to close the door on him?

The club, freeing up wages to sign someone better. Its called progression Jonty. I had a soft spot for Josh to, but for a L2 player he just doesnt do it enough

Freeing up wages …he was offered a deal, so clearly that was the stumbling block.
All said - He scored some very important winning goals for us (not just last season) in a team that lack goals from other areas. Just think you know what you’re getting with Kay and think the match winning moments outweigh the negatives. Of course we have to balance budgets so I’m not overlooking that and Wild has made his decision so that’s the end of that.

Personally I’m very glad to hear what Pete said. If a player says no to us that’s it. We move on. Some at holker street had a soft spot for him. I likened him to balotelli. Could light up the pitch in a moment but always a liability in my opinion. no room for petulance in this years squad every man will be needed!

I think it's interesting to note from a statistical standpoint that it's very much fine margins. To be completely honest, I didn't really rate Gordon as a footballer (aside from workrate, which I loved as he had that in abundance) and I certainly didn't rate him as a finisher, yet he managed to notch 15 goals!!! It's going to be interesting to see if he has another season like that. I can't see it but all the best to him.

Carrying on from that, I thought Kay arguably had his best season in terms of consistency of his performances. That silly, costly 1 red card aside, he had only 5 bookings over the course of the season which is unheard of for him!!! Which is also a shame because I made a few quid off my bets with a Kay yellow thrown in there So I guess that somewhat laid to bed his liability of being a banker for a yellow card, this season anyway.

6 goals he got this season, a couple of penalties saved and hit the woodwork at least twice that I can recall. Again, this is a big IF...but in a game of fine margins, much like Ben Whitfield having a storming first half to the season then dropping off a fair bit, in another season Kay could've ended up with 10+ goals. I mean if that was the case, then I guess we'd be still in the same situation as he'd undoubtedly have more interest. I would have liked to keep him, even if it was primarily as an impact player.

Wasn't there a rumour on here the other day about him being offered a lesser contract than his current one based on him missing games?!?! Absolute madness!!! This could have some credibility though as Pete Wild said in the interview with Adam that he wasn't going to reward Kay following this season ('similar terms' I think he said) and the player wasn't happy with the offer.

IF that is true...IF they offered him less money, I think it's pretty poor of the club. Especially considering the time he's spent at the club and I'm not for one minute surprised he said no to it. I'd probably do the same.

I'll remember some fantastic memories that he provided for the club. Hothead at times, but a player that got me off my seats, for good or for bad, yet a played that always gave 100%. All the best to him

If he ends up in L1 I’m willing to bet that two things will happen. First he’ll end up scoring a screamer against high profile opposition. Secondly he’ll be one of the first players in the division to serve a suspension. If he plays that is.

As said- Scored goals for us that others can’t and those players are hard to come by, especially down that left hand side or through the middle. Plus he’s ever present- no niggling / historic injuries flaring up and can do 90 minutes week in week out (providing he stays on the pitch )
I can put up with the overflowing passion and yellows if he bags the winner in games like he has done several times.

On balance, I think Kay did a decent job for us in National league and L2. I think Wild brought the best out of him and, in the long run, he may see it as a mistake to have turned down a new contract with Barrow, but I wish him well wherever he ends up.

I bid thee greetings once again! Our paths have crossed significantly faster than either of us could have envisaged possible. Is the enfant terrible about to join the mighty Cobblers, or is it just a smoke and mirrors juncture dependant upon ones learnings? My personal heroine Nancy Sinatra recited that these boots were made for walking- cometh the hour cometh the man. Tothe scallys out there I offer this point, do you actually attend games? or is your rhetoric based on a subjective nature?? Errors can have substantial virtues. What a silly comment. Am I missing something? Do agents sign players for teams now and just bypass the manager of said team? With all that online clip stuff available to managers, I'm certain IF Kay does sign for Northampton or any other team for that matter, it's because the manager likes him not because he has a decent agent.

On the subject of agents...Tom White has the right idea. Be the former client of the Barrow DOF (who used to be an agent).

He went missing for 6 games due to an on field misdemeanour so nothing different there imo

Let’s not forget that it was rarely Josh’s style of play that got him into trouble it was his mouth. Making offensive remarks directly to refs, audible sexist comments (allegedly) to players in front of refs etc. These were avoidable and demonstrate a lack of mental control.

Frustratingly it was these same bursts of emotion that enabled him to use his talent to create some magic moments.

You can’t have one without the other with Josh it seems. That’s why he’s so divisive and why we are still talking about him now.
