Re: Morecambe game postponed
All the Bobby Knox info is correct first sub to score - first sub to save a penalty. The point I think Pedro is making is that when Barrow had a goalkeeper injury crisis in their final league campaign 1972 they had to continue playing and they weren’t allowed to postpone the match or bring in an loan keeper.

Re: Morecambe game postponed
It may be a case of deviation from the purpose of the thread (no surprises there) but this little nostalgic trip down memory lane does at least remind us what an absolute legend Bobby Knox was. And involved in so many pivotal moments not only of our history but indeed of footballing history.
We often talk of some of these things with a half smile or sense of mild amusement especially if you are a younger forum member. But the older I get the more amazing Bobby’s involvement in the history of the game and from such a humble level, becomes.
And the odd thing of course is that the things we dwell on are all things that Bobby himself could never have planned. He was just there and they just happened to him. It sometimes hides his career long service to the club which is the true mark of his legendary status.

Further adrift in this off-topic wilderness, did Bobby Knox also have a brother who played for Barrow?

His lad did - Steve.
(I think Steve was Bobby’s son, happy to be corrected)

It was Mike. Played roughly at the same time as Bobby. Wasn’t quite as talented. Played a lot for the Reserves.

I believe Bobby wasn’t part of the match day squad originally, when he made his debut, 2 players were injured in the warm up, and I remember the manager coming out the changing room, and shouting this is your “ opportunity Knox”.

Re: Morecambe game postponed
Hughie Green did, in fact, grace Holker Street with his presence once upon a time, McMark. It was, however, not connected with a football match. He was a special 'star' guest at a speedway meeting in, I think, 1973, organised by promoter, showman and impresario, Ian Thomas.
Re: Morecambe game postponed
Remember seeing Steve Knox score a consolation goal at Northwich Vics after one of the most abject displays I've ever seen from a Barrow team, and boy there have been many. We were 0-5 down in less than an hour. Even Peter McDonell looked as if he didn't want to be there . On a side note after trawling t'internet I found a Barrovian Steve Knox in recent years coaching the German men and Scottish women cricket team at the same time. Could it be one and the same ?

Unbelievable how a post for Barrow v Morecambe can generate so much stuff not about the game

Perhaps it’s because the game has been postponed.2 doors up wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 4:26 pm Unbelievable how a post for Barrow v Morecambe can generate so much stuff not about the game
