Colchester Utd A stern test
Colchester going well at home recently as are Barrow but would take a point Saturday. A win would be a big bonus for me.
Re: Colchester Utd A stern test
I thought we were supposed to be playing their first team?
Popular side since '03.

According to the Crawley manager last week teams can’t possibly win when travelling a long distance so we’ll have to try and somehow get a point

Difficult one to call. The U’s are seldom far from the news media in these parts. Mainly off the pitch but they go through managers at a prodigious rate. Not the most stable or consistent of clubs. Still in new manager mode with Etherington who was previously at Crawley and that is not a bad way of generalising how they might try and play.
They seem to rely on a back three with four in midfield and rely on the youth and pace of Chilvers, Tovide and Taylor up front. Looks a bit disjointed to me at times but seems to work well enough.
They tend to do well against decent sides home or away, but less so against the bottom half. For me, it’s about our back three remaining consistent again. A point would not be the worst outcome.

Pretty accurate assessment SB, would definitely take a point tomorrow and a win on Tuesday, 4 bonus points as Pete would say

Hang on didn,t our team go all the way to Northampton and win.I think the Crawley manager was looking for any excuse to explain his teams performance on the day. When teams and supporters start slagging Barrow off it means they are worried.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 9:38 am According to the Crawley manager last week teams can’t possibly win when travelling a long distance so we’ll have to try and somehow get a point

Lets have a look at that statement regarding long distance away wins this season:-Methuselah wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 8:03 pmHang on didn,t our team go all the way to Northampton and win.I think the Crawley manager was looking for any excuse to explain his teams performance on the day. When teams and supporters start slagging Barrow off it means they are worried.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 9:38 am According to the Crawley manager last week teams can’t possibly win when travelling a long distance so we’ll have to try and somehow get a point
Colchester at Accrington
Newport at Gillingham (Cross country long distance)
Accrington at Wimbledon
A certain Barrow at Forest Green (please note this was also a midweek game)
Harrogate at Colchester
Morecambe at Sutton
Bradford at Wimbledon
Wrexham at Crawley (its happened to you Crawley)
Wimbledon at Harrogate (another midweek game)
The list goes on but you get the point

Fairly sure HenneysKnee was mocking Crawley’s manger, not making a statistical point.
When you listen to an opposition manager’s interviews, the ones who use the journey up to Barrow as a mitigating factor in their failure to win never mention it for the home fixture - “Well, we should be winning- Barrow have had a hell of a journey to get down here etc.”
Funny, that.

Re: Colchester Utd A stern test
Looked at last season’s table and to make the play offs or gain automatic promotion most teams picked up a minimum of 35 points ( give or take) on their travels, from 23 games. We currently have 15 from our 10 away matches.
To reach the 35 point mark, as tough as it may sound, we really should be looking at winning at places like Colchester.

Re: Colchester Utd A stern test
Find it baffling when managers moan about travelling up to us. Teams travel the day before on state of the art coaches with TVs kitchens the full works. Stop the night at a hotel where they will have their arses wiped for them. All the players have to focus on is the game it’s their full time job. You could understand a semi pro national league team moaning but not full time athletes
Re: Colchester Utd A stern test
Not sure why we’ve got fans saying they’d be happy with a point, we’ve got to be putting teams like this away. Especially with the run in we have coming up! Also they’ve lost more games then they’ve won at home this season.
Re: Colchester Utd A stern test
Probably because they are looking at it from a realists
Prospective. Very happy with a point, overjoyed with a win. And I will soon get over it if we lose.
And of course the earlier remark by HenneysKnee was tongue in cheek.
Re: Colchester Utd A stern test
a draw is poor, we need to be winning these games
