Under 3 hours to kick off, and no one even talking about the big “ Bay Derby”. Well I’m gonna start it, Morecambe are top of the form table,and playing very well, we are a good footballing team, but lack the ability to put chances away. Difficult to predict it,the bookies have us favourite,so I’ll go with them. Not sure how many they will bring, but they’ve certainly built a good fan base for home games. I’m going 1-1, 3,850 attendance with 500 from Morecambe.

I did think, at the time this was reported, that it was a bit 'sledgehammer and nut' to call for the cops. Surely a fellow member of the Morecambe contingent, or failing that, a Barrow Director or, failing that, a Steward, should have had a word with the offender and told them that comments like that are out of order.

Should be followed with a banning order, any other fan would get one.

I assume that he was arrested and the "Community Resolution" action by the Police is based, as the report says, on the victim saying that no further formal action should be taken.

I just wonder, if your mate had been sitting beside you and shouted that, would you call the police? And if the stewards came up and wanted to escort him/her from the ground and get the police involved, would you agree with this action? In many things in life, having principles seems to work only when it doesn't affect you personally, or apply to one of your family or friends.

Depends on the particular words that were used I suppose Jim. Also the attitude of the victim, possibly also the victim's employers, especially if he was a contractor. Also whether the words used could be mitigated by having a potential alternative meaning etc. etc. I'm sure the law applicable allows for compromise. It does sound however like a compromise in this case.
