Challinor saying BOTH our goals were offside. Sounds like this is what he was having a go at the ref about at half time (as Pete Wild alluded to). So no surprise then that the ref felt pressure to disallow our 3rd?
The highlights will be interesting

On the disallowed goal, the ref blew before Ray(?) struck it. Still should’ve been allowed to play on as it was clear the ref or linesman saw no foul - either he was convinced it was a head injury or the fourth official somehow saw something from the half-way line.Jim wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:11 am Just watched the extended highlights to see the disallowed 'goal' incident, but it wasn't shown. One earlier comment on this thread was that the ref had been told by the fourth official that there was a man down. Even so, if he had not blown the whistle before the ball went in, surely he can't disallow it? Likewise, if there was a foul in the box, why had he not blown for it (or perhaps he did and we didn't hear it)? Or did he just decide there was a foul because he saw a man on the floor?
Anyway, Mr Coy's performance was really poor for both sides. Whitfield's goal was offside I think (blame the assistant at that end) but the second one wasn't. Fouls were given on both sides for nothing, then more obvious fouls were not given (classic bit on the highhlights where Whitfield gets 'handed off' in the face, then the ball goes forward and our defender gets fouled twice but Coy just plays on and Farman has to save a shot.
I suppose the sad fact is that any good refs get promoted and end up in Championship or Premiership (Rebecca Welch looked very good when she reffed one of our cup games a couple of years ago), but the poor ones are left to the unfortunate clubs in EFL2 and 1.

Referees are what they are no matter which league they’re in, we had plenty of excellent chances at 2-0 and 2-2 to take the three points. For me it was one of the best games I’ve seen at holker st. Great to see the whole ground get behind the lads. We go again Fri weather permitting. Be great for another 5k plus.

Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
Pete Wild said on Radio Cumbria the 4th official shouted man down in his intercom to the referee the ref did blow before ball went into the net. Watching it back on Ifollow it’s inconclusive just how the Stockport player ended up on the floor holding his head. Wether it was a push or not you just can’t tell.Moribund wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:53 am

If it’d been up the other end we’d have been happy as Larry

Whitfield is behind the keeper so there still has to be another player between Whitfield and him
It’s offside

Agreed. Both our goals looked to be offside. Linesman at HS end had a mare. He also missed a good claim for a penalty when Chester was held back . On the other hand, I can’t see anything wrong with the disallowed goal. Evens Stevens at the end of the day and a fair result.

At least we can now see how VAR has destroyed the game we love, lots of great post match discussion and a game and attendance that will live long in our memories. Give the refs a break

The bad decisions at least balanced themselves out which can make us feel less aggrieved now I suppose!

Re: Barrow v Stockport County, match thread
In our first goal the initial shot was touched by a Stockport player who deliberately tried to block the ball this played Whitfield on side. If it had accidentally deflected off the Stockport player Whitfield would have been offside.
Law 11.
Deliberate play’ is when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of:
passing the ball to a team-mate; or
gaining possession of the ball; or
clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it).
If the pass, attempt to gain possession or clearance by the player in control of the ball is inaccurate or unsuccessful, this does not negate the fact that the player ‘deliberately played’ the ball.
