Really looking forward to Niall Canavan bombing on from left back. Whitfield was tried in the advanced midfield role earlier in the season and just got lost; if your going to a back 4 surely the only reason to do so would be to allow Whitfield to play on the wing?

What are they expecting ?

As far as I’m aware BAFC will be charged for policing costs within the ground and on any land owned by the club associated with it (e.g car parks).

Any trouble outside the ground would be met by normal policing costs i.e. paid for by the tax payer.

Topical subject as the police and Premier League are currently in talks about the PL paying more for policing. Apparently the most expensive game to police in England is the Manchester derby.

Do we not already pay for the police out of our council tax which gone up inexorably year on year and when,s the last time you saw any police on foot patrolling your local area,but somehow they all manage to raise their presence to overkill on some match days.Most of us on the popular side are above 40 years old,me being 69.I don,t know what kind of trouble they are expecting.We all went to Bradford for the first game and there was no trouble at all and we took a fairly big away contingent.Sometimes if you have a massive police presence all it does is antagonise the fans so I think a rethink.is needed.

As an addendum to.what I previously said we were all walking home from a recent game at Holker St with a massive police presence and some of the younger lads were being a bit boisterous but weren,t causing any trouble just shouting a bit.There was a young policewoman who took exception to this and said to them "Come on have you got no homes to go to,start moving a bit faster.I don,t want to be here all night."
This from somebody who was on overtime getting paid to be there.
I think that is an illustration of part of the problem.The police should liase more with the club and the fans which would create a better relationship which would probably result in a much smaller police presence being needed.Maybe they need lessons in how to talk to the younger fans who can be quite boisterous but with the right approach could learn to appreciate why the police are there and maybe connect with them which would be a win all round.

This is the defence being used by the Premier League i.e. the clubs already pay tax on their earnings so why would it be fair to tax them twice for policing.

I think we may end up with a situation where the PL or their members make an ex gratia payment to support the additional costs of policing PL games. I doubt there will be changes to taxation rules required and I doubt whether any such changes will apply to the EFL.

It would also be fair to say that some clubs could be badly affected by additional levies just by being in the wrong geographical area. It’s been suggested for example that if clubs were each to bear the true cost of policing it might well cripple the likes of Wimbledon, Charlton or Millwall simply because of the costs of policing being so high in the Greater London area.

And for those who quite rightly suggest that the clubs should be doing more without the need for excessive policing, I would suggest they test this theory by taking a trip to the New Den as an away supporter. But please ensure you’ve made a will first.
